Those caramel-colored eyes were piercing, almost like he was trying to see through her.
"I don't see a ring, though." Si Jianjun turned to Fei Huangjin with a mocking look on his face, like he was amused at the current situation playing out. The wide grin on his face seemed like he didn't believe that the two were engaged.
Ying Yue's face reddened, and although she opened her mouth to speak, no sound came out of it.
A vein throbbed on Fei Huangjin's temple, and he struggled to compose himself as he glanced at the other man in calm and careful consideration. "A customized piece takes time to create, Director Su."
"Indeed." The man replied with a laugh, standing up and pocketing his hands. "I'll have to bid goodbye for now, CEO Fei. I believe our discussion was adequate enough. Perhaps I'll invite you and Miss Ying over for lunch one of these days."
"Mmm."
"It was good to see you again, Miss Ying. Excluding the events of today, I hope you find yourself safe and out of trouble. I might not be there to save you again." He grinned.
"You're too kind, Director Su." The blush on her cheeks still hadn't gone away, and the attention that he was giving her at the moment made it impossible for the color to tone down.
Fei Huangjin's head whipped to Ying Yue and then to Su Jianjun, with his eyes blazing with a kind of annoyance. What did he mean by it was good to see her again? When had the two of them met before?
Ying Yue noticed Fei Huangjin's confused expression, causing her to be a bit alarmed, so she bit her lip and shoved him lightly, motioning for him to follow Su Jianjun out the door. She needed time to think about how to explain things to him when he came back.
Thankfully, he grudgingly complied.
The two men exited the office one after the other -- one of them with a bright smile, and one of them with a frosty glare. They couldn't be any more contrasting than they already were. The dashing pair was quite a view for the few people on the floor, and some of the other secretaries snapped photos of them to post on the company group chat. Su Jianjun was quite a looker, after all. He didn't lose out to Fei Huangjin, and the two of them walking alongside each other was a sight to see.
Fei Huangjin believed in "keeping your friends close and your enemies closer," and he pondered for a while about how to deal with Su Jianjun that would help him figure the man out. He pursed his lips and turned to him with a neutral expression. "If you're free tonight, come out with me, Yifeng, and Zihan. They'll be glad to see you again."
Back then, the three men never treated him as a part of their group, and now Fei Huangjin was actually inviting him over instead of Su Jianjun inviting himself. How times have changed. Su Jianjun's smile curved deeper, like he was amused at what he had just heard him say.
"Perhaps some other time, say, this weekend? I have some things I have to do tonight."
Fei Huangjin nodded. The younger Su Jianjun would never refuse an offer from him. This version of Su Jianjun was quite complex -- even a little dangerous if he may say so. "Of course."
They reached the elevators in no time, and there was already one ready to take the guest down to the ground floor.
Su Jianjun stepped in and moved to the elevator panel, pressing the hold button. "Fei Huangjin," he called out. "A little piece of advice: make your woman flourish, don't push her too hard, and keep her happy. A plant thrives in good conditions, and wilts under a stubborn hold. Someone who can provide her with a good amount of sunlight might just take her away."
He released the hold button and pressed another one to close the doors.
The last look Fei Huangjin had of him was that of his mischievous smirk before the metal doors of the elevator shielded him from view. He frowned. Men often coveted what wasn't theirs, and if Su Jianjun thought he could take Ying Yue away from him, that man had to think again.
