Simpler and smaller

Fei Huangjin glanced at her incredulously. "Smaller?" He fixed his gaze at the row of rings in front of them. They all had large diamonds, and the smallest one in the group was probably at least a 2-carat. Didn't women like jewelry like this?

On the other hand, Master Po's mouth curved slightly into a small smile. He wasn't that surprised. He expected as much after seeing her hands. This woman would be a breath of fresh air to the Fei's. He knew better than anyone how the Fei family women loved their diamonds, but this woman was starkly different.

"Yes, smaller. These rings are great, but they're all too flashy." She frowned.

"And you said you didn't know what kind of ring you wanted." Fei Huangjin muttered.

"Shut up."

He chuckled.

Master Po swiftly returned the set of rings back to the suitcase and took out another tray. "Perhaps you'd like these better. The stones here range from 0.75 to 2-carat, hopefully within the range you were looking for."

She nodded excitedly, and he placed the tray in front of her with a curious glint in his eyes. He wondered which one she was going to pick out.

Ying Yue took a few pieces out, tried them on, and put them back. Fei Huangjin didn't say a word, only observing her as she studied the rings.

Finally, after a few minutes, Ying Yue held out two rings to the man across her. "Master Po, would it be possible to have this kind of diamond," she held up one of the rings and then pointed to the other, "put into a design like this one."

The design she wanted looked like it had a simple shiny gold band with a diamond at the middle, but the band was actually embedded with colorless microdiamonds that were invisible to the naked eye, making the band shine with an unexplainable luster to it. He reached out and took the first ring from her. It was a round-cut 1.25-carat light champagne diamond with a beautiful clarity to it. It was one of his personal favorites, making him smile at her in appreciation. "Of course."

Fei Huangjin glanced at the rings she held out, and he grimaced slightly. The diamond she wanted didn't even look that big, and it seemed like she wasn't kidding when she said she wanted something simpler.

If it was his mother, she would be horrified to be given a ring with less than a 2-carat diamond.

Ying Yue looked like she was very pleased with the ring she picked out though, and he couldn't help but admire the view of seeing her happy.

"Young master Fei."

He turned to the elderly man across him and habitually steeled his face. "Yes?"

"I'll work on this right away and have it ready in a few days." His eyes flitted to Ying Yue and then back to Fei Huangjin. "I'm glad your fiancé has found something she likes."

"Mmm."

Master Po placed the rings back inside his suitcase, locking it carefully. His security personnel reached out to take it, and the old man stood up from the couch. Ying Yue finally understood why a team of men had to surround the master jeweler wherever he went. The diamonds inside that suitcase would probably cost millions of dollars altogether.

Su Jianjun unbuttoned his suit before stepping inside his car and sitting down comfortably at the back seat. "Drive me to Changsu," he instructed.

"Yes, sir."

A hand came up to rub his chin as he recalled the surprise in Ying Yue's eyes when she got a good look at his face, and the grateful expression that was apparent when he tended to her wound. It was clear as day that her guard was down during those moments. His lips curved up. If he kept up the act, would she fall for him over that cold and bossy Fei Huangjin?

He chuckled in his seat. Women were terribly easy to sway. He had yet to meet one who hadn't fallen for a few flowers and a few of his good deeds.

She certainly wouldn't be an exception. It would be killing two birds with one stone: removing the threat to the syndicate and spiting Fei Huangjin by stealing his fiancé.

It was a wonderful plan.
