I can buy one myself

"Come here." He beckoned to her, and she walked over to stand in front of him with an eyebrow raised, one hip leaning against the edge of his desk. His eyes travelled over her until they landed on the stain on her dress, making his eyebrows furrow. "Do you want me to get you a new dress?"

One corner of her lips lifted up, and she took a step closer, moving to hold on to his shoulders as she sat on his lap. The blinds of his window were drawn up, and the afternoon sunlight cast an orange glow on one side of his face, highlighting the lines of his face and the sharp curve of his jaw. This man wasn't just given brains and a good heart, he was also ultimately blessed with good looks.

His surprise to her motions was extremely evident on his face, that she couldn't help leaning over to plant a kiss on his cheek. "I can buy one myself," she told him.

"Mmm." A smirk replaced his surprise. That was one of the things he liked about her -- she never took advantage of his money, or his position.

She gave him another peck on the cheek before hooking her arms behind his neck, hiding her face from him.

Fei Huangjin only realized right then how much a kiss to the cheek could actually make him happy. He felt like he was over the moon and past a different galaxy. Gently, he placed his arms around her, adjusting her position until she was cradled against him -- her head nestled against the crook of his neck.

A comfortable silence wrapped around them, and despite the cold air that always seemed to be present inside the office, there was warmth in their embrace.

They stayed like that for quite a long while.

In the olden days, there was a saying that 'when a mute eats dumplings, he knows how many he has eaten.' This was said to point out someone who knows the situation quite well, and yet stays quiet about it. Fei Huangjin felt like the embodiment of that idiom. Ying Yue's weight was pressing sharply on a sensitive part of his inner thigh, and the longer she sat there, the more painful it became for him.

However, he didn't have the heart to tell her that.

Her breathing had eased into even and steady ones, and her eyelids had been closed for some time. The woman in his arms had fallen asleep.

He anchored his cheek over her head and settled in that position, ignoring the pain on his thigh and the subtle numbing of one of his legs. He wanted to stay like this with her for a long, long time.

The meeting room was in a buzz. The team from the operations department were busy tapping on their phones, keeping the company group chat alive with gossip about how the CEO was already fifteen minutes late to the meeting despite being in the same building.

This had never happened before.

"People, he still hasn't arrived."

"Thumbs up if you think the devil CEO and his secretary are doing it in their office right now."

"Thumbs up!"

"Double thumbs up!"

"I don't know if we should thank secretary Ying or scold her for distracting the boss."

In one of the seats, with a pout on his lips, was Fei Haocheng. He watched as the room steadily grew noisier at each passing minute that his brother hadn't arrived yet. However, he didn't bother to appease them. He was still hurting from the missed lunch date with his darling Lina while Fei Huangjin goes off and gets married.

The manager of the operations team turned to Fei Haocheng with a worried look. He had prepared for this meeting for several long nights with his team. "Vice President Fei, if the CEO isn't attending the meeting, does it mean that he's already rejected our team's plans?"

"Uh, well, I believe the CEO will be coming in any minute now." He replied uneasily. The man gave him a look of disbelief, prompting him to make a tsk-ing sound. What an annoying manager. He fixed his tie and stood up. "I'll go ahead and call the CEO. Perhaps he forgot about the meeting.
