The weather was tender that day; it wasn't too hot or too cold, and neither was it too windy. The air blew with a kind of comfort that would make you feel calm and lively at the same time. Ying Yue, however, bit her lip nervously, and then stopped herself as she remembered the makeup artist's reminder: Don't bite your lip so the lipstick doesn't fade. You also wouldn't want it to stick to your teeth, would you?
Ha… Well, she'd gone and done it anyway.
"Scared?"
She turned to the elderly man approaching her and loosened the tight grip on the flowers that she was holding on to. She then flashed him a genuine smile that was both beautiful and blinding to anyone who saw it. "Just a little nervous, President Cheng." To be honest, when she was a little girl, she always thought her dad would walk her down the aisle one day. And then when he passed away, she thought Ying Shen would do it. And then when he disappeared… she chucked out any thoughts of marriage.
But then Fei Huangjin propositioned her… and for a moment back then, she had the fragile confidence that Big Boss would be there if she ever held a wedding ceremony...
"Ahh, you remind me so much of my wife when we had our wedding…" President Cheng, or rather, the retired president, told her a short story about how his wife ran away minutes before their wedding ceremony and how he had to chase her and block the exit. It made her giggle for a bit.
It was the right decision to ask him to give her away at the wedding, she thought wistfully. President Cheng and his wife had always treated her kindly. Moreover, it was because of Fei Huangjin's deal with Cheng Entertainment that pushed him to get married to her. Well, obviously, that wasn't the only reason. But that was more or less the start of the rollercoaster ride called marriage with the young master of the Fei family.
One of the wedding planners approached, telling them that the ceremony was about to start.
And with that, President Cheng glanced at her and patted her shoulder. "You'll have to walk on your own before I meet you halfway through the aisle. Don't run away until then, alright? I'm not sure if this old man still has the energy to chase a runaway bride."
"President Cheng!" She laughed.
"How many times have I told you to call me Uncle? You already call my wife Aunt, anyway. And had you approved, we would've adopted you." He grinned. He was referring to a conversation they had a week ago. Of course, they couldn't exactly 'adopt' her legally since she was well over the age of eighteen, but they wanted to name Ying Yue as their successor over their properties and all, which she refused. "I have to go. I'll see you inside."
And with that, he disappeared inside the chapel.
The wedding planner then signaled that it was her turn to go inside.
She stood in front of the double doors and held her breath. There was no tingling sensations on both of her hands, but her knees did shake slightly. And before she could pull herself together, the doors opened, making her veil flow lightly along with the gentle breeze.
Ying Yue took slow, deliberate steps forward.
A small gathering of people, just around thirty or so, turned their heads to look at her. There was Xi Shenghui and a few of the staff in Juyan that she'd gotten quite close to while working, smiling tenderly at the sight of her. There was Guan Ting and a couple of men from the Dragon Club. There was Mrs. Cheng with her eyes all teary, and President Cheng who was waiting for her midway through the aisle. There was Huangjin's secretary and close business partners of the Fei family, and even Zhang Zihan and Xiao Yifeng, who was with a woman that she didn't recognize. There was Huangjin's family – Fei Haocheng with his girlfriend Lina, Ling Wenshun, who was still looking hostile, and then the old madam and the old master.
And finally, there was Fei Huangjin waiting for her at the altar, looking cold and imposing versus everyone else in the room. But when their eyes met, he looked at her with an expression that was somewhere between eagerness and joy. Ying Yue smiled back at him and had to stop herself from walking faster.
Then suddenly, she saw his ears turn red, and his eyes became shiny and unfocused. Fei Huangjin's lip then began to tremble, and he inconspicuously bit down on it as he watched her walk towards him.
Hold on -- is he… crying?
