Ying Yue was received by President Cheng midway through the aisle, and the both of them made their way to the altar, where Fei Huangjin was waiting. The man seemed to have calmed down now, and was gazing at her with a tender look as he took her hand in his.
He sighed. His wife was too pretty.
She flashed him a naughty smile and whispered, "Were you crying?"
"Of course not," he whispered back. There was a perpetual smile on his face as he said so, and his eyes were still glittering as he attempted to blink back the tears; it was much unlike the unfeeling boss she used to have. He was still cold and detached to most people, of course. But he smiled more these days, and there was warmth on his face. Perhaps this what they meant when they said that love changed people for the better.
"I'm sure I saw you crying, though."
"You probably need prescription glasses. I'll book you an appointment tomorrow."
"Why are you denying it?" She tamped down the giggle that was about to break out from her lips as she glanced at his suddenly serious face. The two were in their own little bubble, oblivious to what the priest was saying. It was funny that even at their wedding, they were still having a row with each other. Was it always going to be like this?
Fei Huangjin cleared his throat lightly. "Hush, honey. We're at the wedding."
"Don't shush me."
"I didn't."
They glanced at each other and grinned broadly, and soon enough, the priest cleared his throat to catch the attention of both people.
"Do you, Ying Yue, take Fei Huangjin as your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?"
She sent a sneaky glance to Fei Huangjin, who was now looking at her expectantly. "I do."
The priest nodded, and turned to Fei Huangjin. His voice was slow but loud enough for everyone to hear, and he asked the same words. "Do you, Fei Huangjin, take Ying Yue as your lawful wife, to have and to—"
"I do. Can we move on, father?" He wanted to kiss the bride already. How long was this thing going to take?
There were murmurs from the audience, and the old madame of the Fei family felt like fainting at her grandson's words. The old master had to hold her up to support her. Of all days, did her grandson really need to ruin such a touching moment at the wedding?
"Uh…" The priest became flustered for a moment but then eventually sighed when he felt Fei Huangjin glaring at him with daggers. He'd officiated countless weddings, but this man was probably the most impatient one of all the grooms he'd met with. "Um… well, the couple shall now exchange their rings."
Haocheng came forward with a proud but goofy look on his face, and he presented them with two rings on a white satin pillow. The exchange went quicker than expected, and soon the priest was rushing through his words of blessing. "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."
Finally!
Fei Huangjin turned to Ying Yue, who had an amused look in her eyes, and he lifted up the veil only for his pupils to dilate. Stunning – his wife was absolutely stunning. How lucky could he be? She was even more beautiful like this that it took his breath away and made him freeze.
"Hubby," she smiled.
"Hmm?"
"Kiss me already."
"Gladly." Fei Huangjin's hand lifted her chin up, and his other arm snaked around her waist, then he pulled her close to him as his lips met with hers. It was a slow and warm kiss that made Ying Yue blush red.
There was a thunderous applause from the audience, and several hoots in the crowd, but the two kept kissing anyway. They were lost in their own bubble of happiness.
