Pain and Confusion

"I know. Things get confusing at this age. But everything will be alright. I promise, things will get easier." Asher comforted her.

Karma leaned against him. Her eyes slipped closed and her mind cleared. Dreams raced through her head, but she wouldn't remember most of them in the morning.

Light shined brightly in her eyes. The sun warming every inch of her body. Her eyes opened slowly due to the light. She became aware that she hadn't redressed since last night. She blushed and looked around but neither Cayden nor Asher were around. She began to redress herself. "Cayden! Asher!" She called.

She walked around the camp, debating if she should go after them or not. But instead of big wolves, two small pups broke through the tree line. "Momma! Momma! Can we go to the stream?" Their gold eyes looked up at her.

"Ugh, sure." She said in confusion.

"Are you not going to come with us, momma?" They were talking to her. Now she was even more confused.

'Momma? Me? A mom?' She thought to herself. She smiled and followed them. As she walked the scenery started to change, there was now ruins around her, the land was dead. The pups looked to be starving to death. Her heart sank. 'What is this?' As they continued her heart began to race, the pups were growing bigger by the second now.

Cayden walked up behind them. Her heart stopped beating as hard, and she relaxed a little. Letting a smile slip from her face, Cayden didn't return it. He glanced at her then continued forward, swatting at the pups.

A growl rose in her throat as the pups whimpered, jumping away from his reach and getting closer to her. She stopped, and so did the pups. She looked down at them, "Where are we?"

"Momma, this is our home."

"And who was that?" She asked, referring to Cayden.

"That was dad, but he still holds a grudge."

Karma began to wonder if she was seeing a glimpse of the future, if she were to choose Cayden. Would he find his mate but hold a grudge on Karma?

Her head hurt as she opened her eyes. Asher still sat there rubbing her head. She heard Cayden get up and she jumped up, feeling déjà vu as she realized she was completely bare. She covered herself and morphed. When Cayden came out of his quickly made tent, Karma had sat at the fire. 'When are we hunting?' She asked.

"What time is it?" Cayden asked through a yawn.

"The sun rose a few hours ago." Asher replied.

"Then we can leave in a little, after I'm fully awake."

Cayden smiled at her, but Karma couldn't stop thinking about her dream. She didn't return the smile, she just starred into the fire. Watching it dance back and forth. 'Im going to go on ahead.'

"I'll go with her." Asher jumped in.

'No I want to go alone.' Karma thought simply. Karma needed to clear her head. She took off before she even had the chance to say anything on her mind, the way Asher was starring made her feel guilty and made her heart hurt.

A few hours had passed and Karma had caught two bucks. She was heading back when she heard Asher, "Karma! Karma!" Asher had a worried tone to his voice when he broke through the tree line. Something was wrong, Cayden wasnt near him.

"Whats wrong?"

"Its Cayden! He isnt breathing!"

Asher led her through the clearing and into camp. Karma made it a few feet from him and morphed back into her human form. She sat right next to him. Asher was right, his heart had stopped beating. Karma's heart stuttered and tears came to her eyes. She covered them, Asher behind her rubbing her back. Tears only threatened to overflow, none did though. "What happened?"

"I don't know," he was chocking up but continued, "he just fell and. . ." He didn't finish his sentence. He wiped the tears, that were threatening to overflow, away from his eyes.

"There's a pretty clearing about a mile west. He would have liked it there." Karma tried to smile, but she wasn't able too. Asher nodded and picked up Cayden's body.

Heading west, Karma's vision was blurred. She tripped over countless roots. Asher put his arm around her.

When they reached the clearing, Karma morphed and started digging. Soon Asher came to help. They put Cayden's body in the hole. "Can I sit alone with him?" Asher asked looking down at the tilled dirt.

Karma was unable to see or speak, so she just walked, to the best of her ability, away.

When she was away from sight, she collapsed to the ground and balled up. She couldn't stop the tears anymore, there were too many. They all came at once and she didn't even try to wipe them or stop them. She covered her eyes and sat there, crying.
