The first one to act was Uvogin. As he charged to meet the beast horde, his fist started to glow red, and he slammed them into the ground, causing a small earthquake. The earth exploded, swallowing tens of the beasts as the ground opened.
Pakunoda and Franklin stood back to back as they started to gun down the nen-sucking bats assaulting them from the air. Machi looked nonplussed as beasts lunged at her. When they were a few inches away from her, their bodies exploded, and Machi closed her hands, revealing a thin bubble of strings protecting her.
Sending out her strings, Machi attached them to the more intact animal corpses, and she started to control them like puppets. When Machi commanded a dead body, it was infused with her nen giving the corpse enhanced strength and speed.
Nobunaga had drawn his sword and flowed through the horde untouched. Nobunaga cut down any beast that entered a three-meter radius around him.
Feitan, on the other hand, was taking all the damage he could, Leon wondered what Feitan was doing, but he could see that the more damage he took, the stronger his nen got.
Chrollo took out a weird knife that Leon recognized as one of Ben's Knives, a dagger made by a serial killer who produced several of them. Leon appreciated the skill he showed with the blade.
"I guess I need to get in on this as well." With a grin, Leon faced his opponents first as he was the last line of defense. Pulling out his sword, Leon forgot how comfortable the handle felt in his grip.
As his first opponents ran up to him, Leon's figure started to phase in and out, almost as if he was a mirage. From Leon's view, everything in a large area around him began to slow down to the point where time had almost frozen. Like a phantom, Leon dealt fatal blows weaving in between each beast.
After killing thirty, Leon stopped influencing time, and just like that, the horde had lost thirty of its beasts. From anyone else's point of view, it looked like Leon teleported and killed thirty dangerous animals in the blink of an eye.
Grinning, Leon did it again, teleporting all over the battlefield, his sword slipping in between ribcages and slitting throats. Even after their slaughter, beasts were still pouring out of the swamp.
But it was no problem for them. About six minutes since the start of the slaughter, the ground and the air shook as something large roared. All the beasts froze, their ears flattened, and their tails drooped, "It looks like a big one's coming."
Uvogin smiled as he dropped his most recent kill, his fists were covered in dry blood, and his body was steaming.
In a few seconds, the cause of Leon's most recent problem stepped onto the battlefield. Leon had to crane his neck to look at the twenty-foot tall ape glaring at the Haven's wall.
Leon absent-mindedly wondered if the ape once lived in the mountains as he prepared to take a stab at the monkey.
Before anyone could take action, Leon sensed a surge of nen, and he looked over to see Feitan holding a miniature black hole over his head.
Feitan was covered in a sleek black armor that looked to be made out of obsidian, Feitan tossed the black hole into the air, and it gently floated above the ape's head.
Before the titan could react, the black hole suddenly expanded to engulf the ape's head then the black hole disappeared along with the head.
The ground shook once more as the body collapsed, and the beasts did a 180, and they started to flee back into the swamp.
"Damnit, Feitan, what the hell was that? You could give us a warning at least." Nobunaga glared at Feitan, who dismissed his armor, "You're just jealous that I got to kill it."
Before the two could start to argue, Chrollo chimed in, "That's enough, you two, we had fun now it's time to get serious."
Leon ran over to the ape's corpse as something had caught his eye. Moving over to where the beast's heart should be, Leon could sense a faint Nen signature.
Sighing, Leon rolled up his sleeves before he plunged his hand into its chest. Not at all pleased with the feeling of rooting around the still warm insides of the ape, he looked for something.
When his arm was almost up to the elbow, Leon's fingers grazed what felt like a stone. Wrapping his hand around the rock, Leon yanked and pulled out the object.
"What the hell is that." Uvogin looked over Leon's shoulder in awe of the small gemstone in Leon's hand.
The gem seemed to pulse with soft light, and Leon could feel the heat coming off it. Leon shook his head, "I don't know, but I know I'm going to find out."
Leon used a cloth to clean off the blood before storing the gem in his pocket, "Why do I have a feeling that we have an uphill battle ahead of us."
"I don't know why you see so crestfallen. Uphill battles are the most fun." Leon sighed at Uvogins antics.
Inside the base, everyone was in shock, after what they just saw all thoughts of trying to pull over one on their host flew out the window. Everyone could feel the shock wave from the ape's entrance and death. At that moment they all knew a new power was on the rise.
