"PUT ME DOWN!" I screamed as we hit the forest. What was the wolf thinking? I don't want to go to the village. All I want is to be far from it and its animal people. Yet here I am tossed like a sack of potatoes over this guy's shoulder as he runs straight for it. Worse then that is my face is just inches from his ass. "LET ME GO! I DON'T WANT TO GO!"
No matter what I said he just ignored me and kept running. I already felt sick from the bouncing and trying to avoid my face smacking into his butt. When he finally stopped and put me down I almost leaned over and hurled. I didn't get much of a breather before I heard yells as a herd of men started to circle us.
"Hey look what Orpheus brought back!" The first to notice us said.
"Is that a female?" Another one shouted as more popped their heads out of houses that for some reason reminded me of the huts in the Peter Pan Disney movie I saw when younger.
One guy who had light skin, blue eyes and bushy brown hair got right in my face "Hey she's a cutie. What's your name?"
I glared at him while taking a step back and crossing my arms over my chest. "Amber and I don't like people in my personal space."
"Oh, Ah, sorry about that." Blue eyes scratched his head and looked down apologetically. I felt a little sorry even though he was in the wrong. Why does he have to look like a scolded puppy?
Orpheus stepped between me and the crowd that was forming. "You heard her so back off," he growled.
The other retreated several steps back with a look of… fear. Was Orpheus that scary to them? I know he scared me when I first saw he was a huge wolf but he had not done anything worthy of the scent the males before me gave off. Wait, scent, I could smell their fear? I shook my head thinking I have to be imagining this but sure enough I could smell the salty scent of fear. WTF!
Before I could figure out what to think of this newfound weirdness an old woman made her way through the crowd. "Ah, you brought quite a beautiful female back with you. I worried when you didn't return from your hunt last night." She smiled gently while looking me over. As she got closer I felt a calmness seep into me.
Orpheus nodded to the old woman. "I found her by Mirror Falls. I kept watch over her last night." He smiled that toothy grin he showed me back at the cave before dragging me here.
"You're a good boy for doing so. The beasts in the forest have been restless as of late. A precious female would be easy prey for them." Turning back to me she held out her hand. "Come child. Let old Ayame show you around." I took her hand and followed her as she pointed out various things until we got to a hut larger than most of the ones we passed.
"Go on in my dear." I went in and Orpheus who had stuck to us like glue all the way here unlike the other males, tried to follow me in. Ayame grabbed his skit to stop him. "Not you. Females only young male." He hesitated while staring at me before stepping aside and letting Ayame enter and close the door.
Ayame pointed to a cousin on the floor "Sit down we have much to talk about. Starting with where you came from. Last I check animals don't have green hides here." The calm this lady had originally made me feel evaporated. Now all I felt was the need to be anywhere but here. Her light brown eyes felt like they are piercing right through me. I no longer felt so lucky for having my jacket when sent here.
