Jason ran towards the golem holding his sword steady in his left hand as it left a trail of rose-red energy behind it. Jason's gaze was fixed on the 3 other pairs of eyes while he was running towards the guardian golem.
Concern briefly flashed through his eyes. What were those other monsters doing?
Jason was forced to trust Boops to keep an eye on them while he and Perseus attempted to take down the huge metallic golem in front of them.
Even from here, Jason could smell the stuffy smell of smoke emanating from the golem's body as behind the hard metal scales a deep red glow could be seen.
A gust of wind blew through the entire chamber, and though the torchers dimly light up parts of the room, the majority of it was shrouded in shadows and darkness.
Jason's legs churned faster and faster, the golem charged straight towards Jason, the red pair of eyes on its head shined in a menacing way as it stomped towards Jason, each step shaking the ground.
Jason shouted towards Boops as he got closer
'Boops! any weak spots or weakness?'
Boops yelled back
'I'm working on it! I'm running through as much data as I can right now!"
The huge golem raised its arms up the huge pillar in its hands seemed to cast a shadow onto Jason in the dim light of the torches.
Jason let out a breath of anxiousness as he saw the pillar falling straight towards him. He lowered his sword and dove between the golem's legs as it drove the pillar into the ground just seconds away from burying Jason underneath the ground.
Jason scrambled up to the ground his heart beating at a breakpoint speed. The golem turned its head around making eye contact with Jason, though Jason made eye contact with it, he couldn't see any intention in it, most likely because it was a machine of some sort. It turned its entire body around with its head carrying the broken pieces of the pillar with it in a mechanical fashion.
Jason hadn't even begun running when the golem had already raised its arms for a second time. He was about to close his eyes and accept the inevitable. But a flash of blue light caught his attention.
Perseus leapt into the air with a yell his sword glowing bright blue as he brandished it. He soared towards the golems head pulled back his arm and swung as hard as he could as its face. But something on the top of its head seemed to temporarily stop Perseus's sword before it passed through to the golems head.
A loud clang reverberated throughout the room.
And Perseus landed softly next to Jason.
He muttered quietly to him
"that barely did anything, it felt like trying to cut open a boulder, though I did feel like I cut something before I even hit the head"
The golem stopped momentarily at Perseus's hit. Its huge arms paused as if time stopped for a second. The huge golem stopped and then slowly moved its body until it faced Perseus.
Perseus and Jason grimaced because they both knew what it meant.
The golem lowered its raised arms and shifted the pillar to one hand. Boops let out a loud
'DODGE!'
As the golem swung the pillar in a huge arc, its splintered fragments blasting throughout the chamber embedding themselves into what seemed to be a once beautiful chamber.
Jason used his roll skill to dodge away while Perseus used his sprint skill to barely escape from the wide swing. Jason grimaced as he pulled out a sharp edge of stone that had flown into his shoulder. Perseus gasped as he held his stomach as blood started to flow out of it.
[you have been hit by some shrapnel -40 hp]
Rocky let out a cry of concern, but he was just to simply far away and too weak to help. Jason regretted taking Rocky to such a dangerous dungeon as this, but it was too late to regret it.
He looked over to Perseus who was letting out pained breaths as he held his stomach.
Jason was again on the brink of despair as the golem got closer to them dragging the pillar behind it as its red eyes were fixated on Perseus.
"oh don't even think about it," Jason said as rage started to build up inside of him. His sword glowed with an intense red light as he charged towards the golem intercepting it before it reached Perseus.
Boops chimed in as Jason ran over to the golem
'Jason! that monsters a golem, and a fundamental principle of a golem is that it has a core, that's its weak spot!'
Jason shouted back in his head
"Yeah?! so where is it?"
Boops answered in an excited and urgent voice
"The core is the brain of a golem, and to get the maximum efficiency it's in either two places, the head or the chest if its the head it's used to simulate a humans brain and the chest if it's like a human heart"
Jason gave a quick glance at the golem, Its entire body and chest were surrounded in metallic scales that looked like they could withstand even his strongest piercing attack. Its head, though lowered, slightly into the defensive scales had bright glowing eyes.
Boops yelled to Jason
'you can see the intense light in those eyes, the core has to be near it!'
"you better be right" Jason muttered to Boops as he thrust his foot into the ground slowly sliding. He reached out with his left hand and a metal skewer appeared in it. Taking the little momentum he had left he planted his foot and launched the metal skewer with as much speed and intensity as he could muster.
A blast of wind swept up the entire room as it soared towards the golem. Hurtling and spinning right at the golem as it stomped over to Perseus.
In a flash, it reached one of the eyes of the golem and to everyone's surprise, it pierced through. A loud shriek emanated from the entire chamber, echoing until it became such a loud noise that even Jason had to cover his ears.
The golem collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut off. It lay on the floor, its entire body glowing in the small cracks of red underneath.
Jason paused and looked over to Perseus who was chugging a health potion as quickly as he could. He paused to wipe a bit of the potion off his chin and gave Jason a thumbs up.
Rocky let out an excited yell and was about to rush over to Jason. But Jason raised an arm out.
"wait" he said quietly as he started at the fallen golem " I didn't get a notification"
All three of them turned to see the golem. Slowly rising off of the floor its arm was raised first, and then the entire body seemed to be tugged up by an invisible force. The golem stood, on slightly unsteady feet, staring at Jason.
The red eye that Jason had broken had been dimmed and a dark red liquid just like blood flowed out of the eye socket. The other eye stared at Jason, this time for some reason he could feel murderous intent.
The golems entire body seemed to vent out steam and rise up and down as if it was breathing intensely.
Some of the metallic scales on the golem's body started to slowly fall one by one, until in the end the golem's body appeared to be a criss cross of metallic scales and the glowing bright red veins underneath. Smoke started to visibly form on top of the golem. As it looked at Jason with its one eye. Somehow able to convey some hatred.
There was a single moment where Jason and the golem didn't move. Instead it was just a dead stare between the two.
And then the golem lurched forward as a dagger landed straight into the back of its head, right where one of the metallic scales had fallen exposing the brightly glowing inside of the golem.
The golem seemed to short circuit and was brought down to its knees.
Perseus stood a few meters behind the golem grinning.
"thought I was down for good eh?"
He laughed as he raised his sword up to plunge into the final eye of the golem as it lay feebly on the ground
Boops at that moment let out a loud yell.
'PERSEUS, BEHIND YOU'
Jason quickly looked over the map to see one of the red dots approaching Perseus at an alarming speed.
In the darkness of the chamber 2 pairs of red eyes was flashing closer and closer towards Perseus.
Perseus eyes widened as he lunged to the right, but it was too late, a black spear pierced through his back, just as he was about to dodge out of the way.
A cold pair of red eyes behind him. And soon the being who held those eyes could be seen. A golem much like the earlier one, except it was in a humanoid shape, metallic scales covered it and underneath the scales glowed a windy green. It held the spear that stabbed through Perseus and pulled it out in a yank as Perseus gave a yell of pain.
