Peter and Gwen continued listening to her parents talking...
"No? That's your favorite word, isn't it?" Mrs. Stacy responded loudly.
"What do you mean?"
"No, no, no... all the time. You never let her go to parties and dates with other guys. Now, she has a perfect chance to have her first date with a person she likes"
"But I don't even know the guy. How can I let her go for such a trip with someone like him?"
"Does it really matter? She knows him, and that's the most important. Gwen is smart, she wouldn't go with someone she doesn't trust."
Peter was thinking of the ways he can persuade them.
"I cannot let this go like this. It is very difficult to persuade Mr. Stacy. I need to show him that he can trust me"
Peter decided to enter the kitchen, he told Gwen to follow her and just listen to what he was about to say.
Peter opened the door slowly...
"I am sorry, I and Gwen were listening to you talking and... I want to say that I am the only one guilty of this argument... I persuaded Gwen to hide our relationship from you... I knew that if she told you about us being together, you wouldn't let her go on dates with me. This will not happen again, I promise"
Gwen's parents looked at Peter, there was an awkward moment of silence...
"Is that true?" Mr. Stacy asked Gwen.
"...Yes..." she said quietly.
"To be honest, I am furious right now... but I also have some respect for your cavalier for telling us the truth. That is a rare quality to have nowadays"
"Does it mean that you will let me go?" Gwen asked.
"How long have you been dating for?"
"For almost a year" Gwen responded.
Peter did not expect her to say that.
"That's very smart, now he would trust me more, as he would think that we have been dating for a long time. In fact, it has been less than a month... however I have known Gwen for a long time. I just need to make a final move now!" he was thinking.
"Mr. Stacy, I know that this is very sudden for you and that it is hard to believe someone you didn't know anything about literally 10 minutes ago. But I love Gwen and I was planning this trip for a very long time. Last year she told me that she has always dreamt about visiting other cities and states, so I got tickets for this trip to make her happy"
"That's so romantic... You should let them go" Mrs. Stacy said while crying.
Mr. Stacy was looking right into Peter's eyes. It seemed like he was scanning him to know if he was telling the truth.
"Ok... you can go" he said with a little fake smile on his face.
"Thank you!" Peter and Gwen said simultaneously.
"Gwen, you can go upstairs and pack. I have some questions for Peter"
"Ok. Peter don't be frightened, he might look angry but he is kind"
"Gwen, you don't have that much time"
Gwen's parents and Peter were sitting in the kitchen and drinking tea.
"How does a young student like you have enough money for a trip to Washington? They are not cheap at all"
"I know that it may sound very unrealistic, but I have a full-time job already."
"That's very good! Having a job at such a young age is rare to happen" Mrs. Stacy said.
"Yeah, but still... I doubt you would've been able to save up from a regular full-time job"
"I signed a contract with Oscorp this month. I like my job and I always knew that science is something I am passionate about"
Mr. Stacy looked confused. It seemed like he knew that Peter was not lying but still couldn't believe his words...
"You must be exceptionally smart then. What are your grades?"
"George! Don't turn it into an interrogation"
"It's ok" Peter said.
"I am just curious. I wanna get to know more about my daughter's boyfriend. So what was your average last year? Gwen studied really hard during the exam season, she managed to get 95%"
"So that's what you want to do... Trying to put pressure on me and make me think that Gwen is too good for me. Luckily, I am the only person from the whole school who got a higher average than Gwen" Peter was thinking.
"I cannot remember the exact percentage, it was something around 97 or 98"
Mr. Stacy had the exact reaction he had just a few minutes ago. He was shocked and wanted to deny Peter's words, but he couldn't. Peter looked calm and confident, so there was no point in doubting him being smart.
However, Mr. Stacy did not want to accept this fact and asked one more question...
