Chapter 5

Mom came back a few minutes later.

When I'd looked at her, her eyes were filled with worry.

"I-I can't seem to find him." She'd said erratically when I was making dinner for the both of us.

I'd stopped taking lettuce out of the fridge to look at her again.

I'd felt...genuinely guilty right then and there. He is your cousin even though he's the one who killed his own parents and the girl in school, He's still little, I'd thought. He doesn't know how to control himself yet, and maybe we can prevent him from doing that, right?

"I called the police and they are looking for him." Mom continued.

"I- I hope they find him soon..." I'd said.

It'd was dead silence after that.

"Let's eat dinner..." I'd suggested.

Mom sighed at me, "I'm not hungry, I'd rather sleep." She'd said as she'd went upstairs.

I'd looked back at the veggie noodles I'd made.

I'd scooped some in my plate and went out the kitchen to eat in the dining area. As I chewed my food, I thought of how it was impossible that Owen was a vampire.

No one in my family was one, that I was sure of.

Then how did he become one?

And isn't he supposed to be dead in order for him to be a vampire?

How did this happen?

The question seemed vague to me.

I'd turned on the TV to distract myself.

Nothing seemed to satisfy me, until the news about the red jewel came again. It was different this time.

"It seems to be very powerful and manipulating." The news reporter reported.

"Scientists are still continuing the investigation about this jewel."

Powerful and manipulating, huh? I'd thought.

That was the end of the news about the jewel.

I'd finished my noodles and went to bed sooner than expected.
