Chapter 6

I'd woke up the next morning and thought about last night. I'd hoped it was only a dream. But, when I'd hear silence in the house, I'd knew it wasn't a dream.

Every morning, Owen would be watching TV before I'd wake up. And my house was totally silent.

I'd checked my phone beside my bed for any missed calls from the police or voice messages.

But there was nothing.

I'd then got out of my bed and went downstairs into the kitchen to make some breakfast.

Mom was already out for work so it was only me in the house.

After I'd quickly ate my breakfast, I'd got ready for school.

I'd got my bag, went out the door, and saw my school bus.

After I got on, I'd took my usual seat in the back next to my best friend, Louisiana.

"Hey." I'd said to her, quietly.

"Hi." She replied back.

It was quiet for a minute between us until she'd spoke up.

"So." Louisiana started.

I'd looked at her, suddenly.

"So?" I'd asked.

"Did your cousin run away last night?" She'd asked, hesitantly.

I'd just stared at her, trying to understand and calculate how the heck she knew about it.

"How do you know?" I'd demanded.

She gave me a weird look before rolling her eyes.

"No need to get exaggerated, Ash." She'd said.

"I heard it on the news."

"Oh." Was the only thing I'd said.

"What about it?" I'd asked a few moments later.

"Nothing I just wanted to know if you found him." Louisiana said.

"Not yet." I'd replied.

"Well, I hope you find him soon." She'd said, distracted.

The rest of the ride to school was quite. We didn't say anything after that.

I'd met Louisiana in kindergarten when I'd was being teased by some bullies because I'd wore glasses and she'd stuck up for me.

And that's how we'd became best friends.

When we'd reached school, me and Louisiana went our separate ways to homeroom.
