CALEB WAS NOT IN THE MOOD

"I cannot say at this time," was all his mother said to him. Caleb knew that they were hiding something very crucial from him and it was infuriating him, but giving in to their request is not the solution to the problem

He then looked back at his and said, "I am sorry dad, if I don't know the truth, then I cannot agree to this marriage."

Caleb knew if he disagrees with them, they might reveal to him the truth, and why we are in debt when he has been working his tail off, to offset all those bills.  Whatever they are hiding from him must be the reason dad is not looking himself, I am sure of it'

"Caleb, please try to understand son, this is the only way that we could meet the financial demands for Petal's dowry," his father said in such a pleading way.

Caleb was really Jonas's last hope, for saving the family from disgrace. Yes, he wants both Petal and Caleb to get married in hopes that it could help change their lives but also at the same time help his business stabilize.

"That's what you keep saying dad, but what does that have to do with me? Why do I have to make the sacrifice when I don't even know the reason for it? Can you tell me?"

Jonas see how frustrated he was when he said, "I love Petal, dad, but she risks her life, and now you two are asking me to be the sacrifice. I am sorry, but that is never going to happen," before he stormed out of the library.

He then started to mumble as he made his way towards his room, "They think that I am an idiot while the others are gambling away their money and swindling from the business?

Do they expect me to put my neck on the block for them? Who knows what the girl looks like? As long as they could get money to flaunt around, they expect my life to be on hold for them?"

When Caleb arrived at his room he headed straight to his bathroom where he took a long cold shower.

After changing he sat on his bed with his back resting against the bedhead. Taking up the newspaper that he had brought home and previously placed on his bedside table. He was about to start looking through it when he heard a knock on his bedroom door.

"I am busy," he immediately said as he wasn't in the mood to talk with anyone.

"It is I son," he heard his mother's voice.

"I am not in the mood to talk mom, so please leave me alone," he said and hoped that she would take the hint and really leave him alone.

"Neither am I son," he heard her say but yet he heard her turning the door handle.

When Margret realized that the door was open, she pushed it and walked in. However, Caleb wasn't happy with the sudden intrusion of his privacy and his mother's refusal to leave him alone.
