Fifty Six

Just then Sarahiah's phone rang and she pushed him aside and grabbed it, "Yes Jerod," she answered, Caleb saw her slumped down on the floor as she talked, "What did the doctor say... So they can't try anything else..."

Caleb saw her stifled the cry so Jerod won't hear her, "Did they say why his body is not responding to the chemo... Will you tell him I love him?... Thanks Jerod, if anything happens please call me..."

Sarahiah was going to slam the phone but Caleb stopped her by saying, "Not the correct decision, so how is he doing?"

"Jerod said his body is too weak and it is not responding to the chemo. I have done everything hoping to get some good news, why didn't he tell me earlier? Now I am going to lose him, just like how I lose my mom in some freak accident, why is it good people always have to die?"

"Look death is something we have to embrace, it's a part of living."

"I know, that is why I give in to this marriage so that he could have some peace and won't be worrying so much."

Caleb looked at her, 'Dear God, we were both caught in the same snare.' It was only then did he think, 'Did she know it was I she was going to marry?' so he asked, "Did you know it was I you were going to marry?"

"No, and right now I don't care, I did everything to release the stress and tension thinking that maybe he will get better, I even get the best doctor to treat him, now nothing is working." Caleb heard her cry and when he was going to touch her she snapped and said, "I am going to take a bath, and we have to get up early for when your parents have to leave for six, we should do the same."

Disappointment and anger replaced the adrenaline that was there before the phone call, 'Now she is alone with her thoughts and pain, and I am all alone, how I hate this feeling.'

Caleb took his clothes and went in one of the empty bathroom and bathe then returned to bed. He waited for her but it was like nothing he had felt before.

The clock banged ten and yet she didn't come out the bathroom, Caleb was tempted to check and see what was taking her so long, but he decided against it, 'She want her alone time.'

...

Caleb woke up to the ringing of his phone, he saw it was Jezell so he ignored it. 'I must have fallen asleep, but where is she, she can't be in the bathroom still?'

Caleb checked the washroom, then walked out to the corridor, the living room, kitchen and study, she was no where around.

'Dear God, where could she be,' Caleb heard the clock banging again , 'Maybe she is in the van.'

Caleb then checked in the garage only to see the white van, 'I know she is not afraid to drive late, but where has she gone this hour knowing she is being watched?'
