Sixty Six

Caleb descended the stairs when the door flew open and he heard his mom, Petal and Aunty Zelda saying that they were starving. Aunty Zelda then said, "I will take a shower and then start on dinner."

However, Petal went straight into the kitchen and no one seemed to have seen Caleb standing there, but they were happy. "Mom, where is dad?" he asked but no one answered him either, 'Was I thinking it? And where is Sarahiah? Is she resting?'

Caleb followed Petal into the kitchen, he saw her opening the dishes and the food smelt good. Petal shouted at the top of the voice, "Mom, dad, Aunty Zelda, Sarah and Caleb cook for us."

Caleb heard his father saying as he stood at the kitchen entrance, "Son are you alright? You look so stress out."

"I am fine dad, but you all return early."

Caleb noticed his dad check his time, "Son it is already four o'clock, and it is nice you remained home to welcome us. Has Sarah went to visit her family?"

'What is he talking about?' Caleb asked himself but then said, "Let me go and help with your bags as you all go and freshen up before eating."

"Caleb let me get Sarah, I am starving," Petal said and Caleb saw her run up to his room.

"Petal," Caleb said but she was already opening the door.

"Sarahiah," Petal called but then said, "Caleb, Sarah is not in the room."

"Honey, she seems to have gone to visit her brothers," their dad responded, Caleb saw Petal hurried back to the kitchen, she took the bowls and carried them to the dining table.

Caleb felt his mouth water from the aroma of the food, 'But how is it she left without saying a word to me?' he thought.

Caleb went to the garage and saw that the van wasn't there, 'Now that the van is back we will be going our separate ways. Why is it only dad realized the van isn't home? Why didn't the others see she wasn't home with me here? They should have realized that.'

Caleb returned inside and saw that everyone was sitting at the table and dishing out their food. He took a little as he saw how they were eating, then a thought crossed his mine, 'Have she eaten before she left?'

Caleb raised his head to look at them, but all the dishes were empty, 'How is it they could be so inconsiderate? Didn't they think about her for one minute and leave some for her? I should have taken out some for her first, now it doesn't have any if she comes home hungry.'

Caleb lost his appetite and felt his insides churn with a disgusting feeling and anger towards them for forgetting her. 'She went out of her way and prepared such a nice meal knowing they are returning home, and this is the thanks she get.'

When they stood up and said that they were going to take a rest he stood up, that is when Aunty Zelda said, "I will clean up." She looked at Caleb who seemed to be disturbed about something, "Son are you unwell?"
