Misunderstandings

"So what is this urgent matter you want to discuss? Mr....?"

"My name is Michael Duchard. I just have a few questions regarding your recent accident." Michael said as his eyes wander around.

"oh please go ahead," John said. John wasn't surprised when he heard him, he actually expected someone to ask questions. He was just surprised the FBI would be alerted.

"On the night of the accident, did you witness anything strange?" Michael asked.

"No, it was just an ordinary night, as far as I can remember." John said. 'yup mysterious corpses are very ordinary'

"I see. well, then I guess that's about it." Michael said in a depressed manner.

'That's it? Buddy you only ask one question is you even a real Agent.' John was surprised by Michaels's attitude.

"Oh, by the way, Mr. Revaer, do you believe in magic. " Michael asked suddenly.

John was caught off guard by this question. If it was before then a question like this would be seen as a joke by him but now it was a completely different matter. "Haha. Of course but I've seen so many magic shows." John tried to laugh it off.

"I believe you know what I'm talking about Mr. Revear ." Michael flicked his finger and a fireball appeared above his head.

John was shocked when he witnesses Michael casting the fireball skill. He immediately got up and retreated a few steps to make the distance between the two of them. "Who are you?!" Panic could be heard in his voice.

"Relax I know it's you, Lance," Michael said.

'Wait what?' John was thrown off by Michael's statement. He had no idea what was happening anymore. Initially, he was afraid the Southern Magic Association found out about his involvement in Lance's death, but now he was not sure...

"You picked a nice body to possess I must say. A lonely rich boy so that you can do whatever you want. Come on sit. It seems the possession has its side effects." Michael said as he smiled at John.

'Does he think Lance is possessing me?' John started to understand the situation. It wasn't completely false since he read a lot of Lance's memories. So one could say Lance is 'possessing' him.

John also finally realized why the man seemed familiar. He was in one of Lance's memories. The reason John didn't immediately recognize him was that he didn't leave that big of an impression on him.

John walked back to the sofa and sat down as he faced the giant man. They started at each other before the man said: "So you started practicing magic again?"

"Yeah, I started today." John honestly replied.

"Your teacher said you had a relic with you that could save your life. I guess it didn't come without a price to pay. What do you remember?"

John finally put all the pieces together. It seems he was quite lucky or Lance has shitty luck. As the situation stands he's got one choice, become Lance. He can't possibly say that he somehow absorbed Lance's memory and killed his soul.

He didn't even dare imagine how he would be roasted.

John started narrating most of the memories he's seen from Lance's memories. Of course, he didn't forget to add some emotion to his narration to make it sound more believable. In the end, he even added, " I was going to return to the association but I can't just leave since he's from a powerful family. It would be a headache once they start looking for him."

After John's long story, Michael looked like he was pondering something. After a bit, he said, "You should stay here for the time being and hide among the ordinary people. Since the North thinks your dead just stay dead. You can always return once the war is over."

"War?" John asked surprised.

"The Northern Devils assassinated you as a way of declaring war against us. They've even allied with the Natives to fight us so we are in a bit of trouble. You shouldn't worry though it's still under control "

John gains quite a bit of information from this conversation. Of course, he didn't forget to say with a heroic tone, "How can I act like a coward at a time like this. Even if I'm pathetically weak right now I can't just hide."

John thought he should win an Academy Award for his performance. Even he almost believed that he was actually heroic.

When Michael heard John's words he was visibly moved. He started laughing emotionally "Good, good. you don't disappoint. knew you were a real man. Since you're determined, then I guess I'll take you back to HQ."

" ... ", John froze when he heard Michael. This was not what he has anticipated. After his little heroic remark, Michael as the caring elder was supposed to force him to stay. This was not how the dialogue was supposed to play out.

'There has been a big misunderstanding!!'
