It was already morning again and my journey was ready to continue, to my surprise it was raining. So this place had different kinds of weather as well? How similar was it to the real world? No clue. Anyways I had to hurry, the town wasn't going to wait all day for me - or better, I wasn't going to wait all day to arrive at the town... The indication said it wasn't too far so I started walking, each footstep a scritching sound as I moved the pebbles on the path around.
After about one hour I was getting a bit concerned, it didn't seem like the town was any nearer. But how could this be possible? I was sure the golden panel said the town was just 100 metres away from the my camping spot! And as I slowly figured out I was near something, I understood. A figure was visible at the horizon and that was what the panel indicated. Thinking it was the so waited for town I ran towards it with joy, but I was wrong, that was far different from a town...
It was a tower, a black, stone-made tower adorned with a huge observing platform at the top and gargoyles decorating the rest with golden rings all trough the tower's imponent body. It was somehow beautiful, it was agressive and ancient but it emanated some sort of power I wasn't aware of. And then I got a presentiment, there was something behind me, my Danger Reveal ability was never wrong.
A man, the first ever human I encountered in a lot of time, yet it wasn't a human, I didn't notice first but his ears were ending with a delicate spike, his portament fierce and a sense of power which only a magic creature could have had, even I, a normal person from a world where none of these things exist, could understand this, an elf maybe? They appear very frequently in fantasy stories... I felt worried, what may this person want from me? Did he live there? Was he a friend or an enemy? So many questions came to my mind and I suddenly realized I didn't see another living soul (apart from monsters) for a very long period of time... Another idea took over my mind now, maybe he could answer all the questions that remained unresolved for me about that world, the things a local person would clearly now better than me!
And he spoke, "I see you are thinking for long, maybe I should just leave you here and never return back? Shall I my little friend?"
How dare him, calling me little! But then I remembered, If he was truly a magical creature than I would have appeared to be ages inferior to him... I replied back,
"I'm Cerys Shawl of another world and I seek for the guidance which can help me evade from this place in which I'm trapped! I don't mean any harm and I hope I will not get any, I give you my respect and my word I won't do anything which may wrong you in change for certainty that you'll do the same and that you may answer the doubts that grudge me from the first instant I touched the soil of this foreign world."
Was that worded weird? Maybe I exagerated trying to talk in an impressive manner... But the man replied.
"I see, well, my name is Lavreol and I am the protector of the Tower of Furthest Sight which you may also hear as The Great Observatory or The Eye of the World. If you come inside I'll see what I can do for you..."
It all seemed normal, the ma- Lavreol didn't seem to be an issue, no I didn't need to confront him fortunately. I followed him as I entered in The Tower of Furthest Sight, was that what he called it?
I was stunned. Nothing was comparable to the simplicity of that tower from the inside... Seeing how it was from the outside and knowing Lavreol was a magical creature i thought his house would have been something incredebely luxurious, something adapt to a king or emperor but no, that tower was the most modest of all modest houses, it was just a simple room with a small kitchen and a space to relax with some stairs leading to the upper floor, no trace of precious gems and crystals, no traces of any throne or any kind of thing someone would expect to see in some kind of castle... it was just a house but tower shaped.
He told me, "So, you got here from another world you say... I believe you, but it hurts me I am not aware of any portal to other worlds and such I am not aware of any escape route for you. Yet, I want to offer you help, or I promise I would leave this tower and drown myself in regret, I always help people, that is fundamental."
Incredible! He was ready to throw away his entire role and status just to help me! It was in that instant I knew I encountered a true friend, or not friend, but still someone who was truly caring about my condition. He continued,
"Do you know why this place is called the Tower of Furthest Sight? Because it has strong magic, you can see everything in the world from the platform above us and thanks to the hiding machinery which the third floor carries, this tower can give you the opportunity to search for what you want but it does follow some intricate plans, I am not aware of them and I can't guarantee the observatory will show you what you want, but I can promise it will show you something you need. The choice is yours and only yours but remember that the tower can show you both past and future, not only present, so be careful, because if you accept, this may radically change your destiny..."
Was I really ready to see, to see my future, my present or past, to see my escape or my doom, to see fantastic places or locations of death, was I ready to define my new objective?
