I Don’t Like to Be Kept Waiting

Having thought long and hard, Gu Qingcheng took out her phone, searched for Tang Shi's number, and made the call.

When Gu Qingcheng called, Tang Shi had just stepped out of the shower and was leaving his bathroom. As he was drying his dripping wet hair with a towel, he glanced at his phone. When he saw that the caller ID showed Qingqing, Tang Shi's hands, still holding the towel, froze briefly before he accepted the call with a steady hand. Before he could say anything, Gu Qingcheng's voice came through from the other end, saying, "I accept."

Just those words.

For a split second, Tang Shi was stunned, and his first response was reflexive. "Huh?"

Clutching her phone tightly in her hand, Gu Qingcheng assumed, from his reaction, that he'd forgotten what he'd said to her earlier. Pursing her lips determinedly, she said quietly and without any emotion, "I said, I accept your proposition to spend one day each month with you, and, in exchange, you will get me a job at Sheng Tang."

It was only then that Tang Shi recovered from his stupor. He held onto his phone and was silent for quite a while.

"This was so weird. Since it had been his own proposition that she had just accepted, why did he feel a burning rage inside of him that he couldn't get rid of?"

Gu Qingcheng waited a while longer and, not getting any response from Tang Shi, continued, "When can I begin working at Sheng Tang?"

Amused by Gu Qingcheng's question, Tang Shi sneered. Not holding back, he spoke in a voice loaded with disdain and sarcasm, "Gu Qingcheng, I slept with you and then dumped you. Yet, here you are again, like a moron, presenting yourself to me on a plate. Just how thick-skinned can you be?"

His words were cruel and like a razor-sharp knife, instantly slicing and dicing Gu Qingcheng's self-esteem into a mess of nothing.

Although Gu Qingcheng knew that Tang Shi couldn't see her distress and embarrassment through the phone, she nonetheless resolved to sit upright with her head held high, desperately trying to maintain her demeanor of calm and elegance.

As the saying goes, being on a pavilion that is close to the water, one will be basked in brilliant moonlight. Gu Qingcheng was very much aware of this principle, but the first thing she had to do was to make sure that she could get hired by Sheng Tang as an employee.

Marrying Tang Shi and becoming the female boss of the Tang family had been an outcome that her own family had drilled into her head since she was a child. It was also her personal goal.

And no one should even dream of standing in her way.

No one, not even if that person was Tang Shi himself!

There was a long silence before Tang Shi finally answered, "Tomorrow is the tenth day of this month. Tomorrow night, come at ten o'clock. You know where to go, so just drive here yourself. If you treat me right and make me happy, I will let you join Sheng Tang the following day."

After a brief pause, Tang Shi added, "Ten o'clock. And you know that I don't like to be kept waiting."

That said, Tang Shi hung up abruptly.
