I Don’t Like to Be Kept Waiting II

There was a long silence before Tang Shi finally said, "Tomorrow is the tenth day of this month. Come tomorrow night, at ten o'clock. You know where to go so just drive there yourself. If you treat me right and make me happy, I will let you join Sheng Tang the following day."

After a brief pause, Tang Shi added, "Ten o'clock. And you know that I don't like to be kept waiting."

That said, Tang Shi hung up abruptly.

The room had turned strangely quiet. Although his hair was still dripping wet, Tang Shi didn't appear to have any intention of drying it.

Feeling a bit suffocated, there was a tugging deep inside of him that he couldn't explain. He walked over to the balcony, pushed open the windows, and let in the cool night air that was infused with the fragrance of the flowers in the garden, beautifully refreshing.

His damp hair flickered a bit in the night air and cooled him down a little, and gradually his unsettled emotions settled and he grew calmer.

He stood there for an indeterminate period of time, until his hair had completely dried out. Then he turned around slowly and picked up the phone that he had thrown aside earlier. Unlocking the screen, he saw the log of his call with Gu Qingcheng and her picture, which he had saved in the phone, with her enticing smile, so alluringly beautiful.

In a daze, Tang Shi stared at the screen for a while before swiping to his contacts list, selecting a number, and making a call. Without preamble, Tang Shi said curtly, "I will be there tomorrow."

"Got it, Young Master Shi."

Tang Shi cleared his throat slightly before adding, "She will also be there."

Then, without waiting for a reaction from the other end, he hung up.

On the other end of the phone, the recipient of the call was momentarily stunned as Tang Shi hung up the phone. Recovering his composure, he realized who the she that Young Master Shi had referred to was.

It had been three long years. During that period, like clockwork, Young Master Shi would go to that villa at the same time, every month. Finally, he wouldn't be there on his own any longer.

...

Gu Qingcheng and Tang Shi had made a pact, an agreement between them that had existed since she was 13 years old. On the tenth day of each month, Tang Shi would take Gu Qingcheng on a vacation break to Beijing's northern suburbs, to a resort village called the Red Garden, owned by the Tang family.

In time, it became an unwritten rule that on the tenth day of every month the resort village wouldn't be open to the public.

...

Tang Shi had told her that their appointment was for ten the following night. By the time Gu Qingcheng got home, it was already midnight. Although she had gone to bed at about one, she was nonetheless up bright and early the next morning.

There were many things that Gu Qingcheng had observed since she'd been a child, and they were deeply etched in her mind. However, to be doubly sure that she wouldn't mess up, she took out her diary of notes that she had made over more than ten years.

The diary was filled with rows and rows of information. Beginning from the first page filled with childish scribbling to the last page filled with elegant penmanship, it was a compilation of 12 whole years of hard work by Gu Qingcheng.
