Looking past shortcomings

The cafeteria was packed with students as everyone was enjoying their freedom after the exams were over.

Su Shaoyan whistled as the four sat down at their table, "I didn't know there were so many people in our college!"

Shi Weiwei rolled her eyes, "Of course you didn't. You would, if you got your eyes away from the jocks for one second."

Su Shaoyan clutched at her heart, as Lu Zuan patted Weiwei on the back. "You've become good! Weiwei!"

Shi Weiwei laughed as Xuan patted Shaoyan's hand to console him.

She turned around as she felt a hand on her shoulder and smiled upon seeing Un Xiao, the captain of the basketball team.

Xuan was easily the best player on both the basketball and the volleyball team, but she was the captain of none.

She had declined the position of the basketball captain to Un Xiao, who was a master strategist and could easily use everyone's strengths to the team's advantage.

The same had been the case for volleyball.

Un Xiao smiled and pointed to her own table, where most of the girl's basketball team was sitting. They all waved and Xuan smiled back before turning to face Un Xiao.

"All of us are planning a kind of get together later this week. The whole basketball team. The girls, and the boys. And it would mean a lot to us if you would come." Xiao spoke in one breath and waited for Xuan's answer.

Ying Xuan smiled. She could guess why Xiao was being so formal.

Xuan didn't really interact with these girls outside practice. Though they were nice, it was too much of a hassle typing back and forth. Ying Xuan looked at the girls of her team and then back at Un Xiao. She nodded with a smile.

Un Xiao's face broke into a huge grin as she held Xuan's hand, "You'll come!! Oh that's perfect! Thank you Xuan. It really means a lot to us! Well, see you later then."

She dropped Xuan's hands and walked away.

Ying Xuan sighed with a smile.

Un Xiao could get a lot chatty when she wasn't planning something in her mind.

You could tell if she was planning something easily that way.

Xuan turned back to her friends who were looking at her with smiles plastered on their faces.

She raised an eyebrow and Shi Weiwei spoke up, "See Xuan!! You were worried for nothing! The girls in the basketball teams are sweethearts."

Su Shaoyan clapped her on the back and said, "Yeah. People with talent tend to easily look past shortcomings. It is only the vain ones who hold onto them."

"Not that you have any real shortcomings." Lu Zuan added with a nod and a smile.

Xuan's eyes welled up with tears as she leaned across the table and wrapped her arms around her friends' necks.

"Too touchy." Zuan spoke with a smile as Shi Weiwei pretended to choke, saying, "Too. . . tight. . . ."

Xuan chuckled and let go as Su Shaoyan suddenly perked up again.

"So. . . . .are you all down for a party tonight!!!" he exclaimed, rubbing his palms together.

Zuan, Xuan and Weiwei looked at each other.

Weiwei and Zuan were rarely in the mood to party anytime, and the only thing Xuan wanted was to relax tonight.
