Chapter 12

My advanced tech class is my safe haven away from Feng and today that also includes a great hiding spot from Grace.

I am not interested in going to a dance, I find it hard to enjoy myself when I know my family is being torn apart day by day.

I know this is my chance to enjoy myself and try to live like a regular kid but that is easier said than done.

I watched as the only home I had ever known be torn down by giant flames.

I watched as my grandfather took my baby sister away.

I watched as a fake casket that could have been a real one be lowered into the ground that supposedly had my sister's body in it.

I watched as I saw my father be torn down to working in so cubical

I watched as I saw my mother have to resort to being trapped at home and unable to run her empire.

I watched as my family was completely torn apart.

Of course Grace means well, but I cannot tell her anything of my past.

So for now, this class is my safe haven.

I am one of the top kids in this class, the other is a guy called Wang Li.

He is wicked smart, this is the only class I have with him along with defense class.

He seems to be very closed off to everyone with a type of air about him, almost like he is too good to talk to anyone and it would be a waste of his breath. The only person I see him interact with is his friend Wu Cheung. His presence is very aloof and comes off as cold. What I am postive about is that he is a genius, he is top of each of our classes.

I did talk to him once, but that was when I asked him for directions to the library, and he merely pointed in the direction of the library before walking away. So technically I did all the talking.

Whatever, doesn't matter I guess. I am not here to make friends, I am here to plan and wait till I finally turn 18 to graduate and avenge my family legacy.

Being stuck at 16 is brutal when one has the IQ of 175.

Soon my last class of the day comes: P.E. aka Defense.

As children of people in power, the school system believes its best to teach us how to defend ourselves, a lot of the ciriculum is taught around several different forms of the martial arts.

I am one of the few girls in the advanced class for defense. Thanks to my parents who put me in defense classes while I was younger. I even sparred against my mother from time to time to see how far I've come. She can still put me on my ass though.

I am in group B, while Grace is in a level below me, Group C.

Many first years are in Group D and Group A is for seniors.

I also happen have Feng in my group as well as Wang Li, and Wu Cheung.

The other girl, Holly Santano, absolutely hates me because she thinks I am trying to steal Chen Feng away from her. However, simply ignoring her passive aggressive comments and death stares makes her even angrier.

I can't ever win with her, tsk.

Class is outside today on the training field. It is so beautiful outside, the field is surrounded by wild flowers. The field sits between all the surrounding mountains and the clouds are sometimes low enough to touch. It looks like a fortrus, a beautiful and isolated fortrus.

"Alright guys! Lets start with our warmups!" Our master begins to instruct us. Master Han seems to get along well with uncle, probably because they seem to be around the same age and have almost the same personalities.

We all start beginning the routine stretches.

Our defense class "uniforms" makes me feel like a ninja. Guys are in tapered black sweatpants with the choice of a black T-shirt or Black long sleeve. For Girls we have the choice of black yoga pants or black tapered sweatpants with the same options of a black T-shirt or a black long sleeve.

"Did you guys hear? Laura Yang has never been asked to a dance! How sad!" Holly comments to everyone around us as we stretch.

But I ignore her and start going down into a split to stretch my quads.

I can see her out of the corner of my eye starting to huff and become upset that I won't give her the time of day.

"Laura, how about I take you to the ball that's coming up? We would make a great pair right?" Feng walks up to me and leans on one of the training escrima sticks.

"Why would you want to waste your breath on her Feng?" Holly immediately tried to intervene and walked up beside Feng, but he merely shrugs her off.
