Chapter 5: The Newcomer

"You did what?!" Joy exclaimed, too surprised with what Light did.

"Dont you remember what I told you yesterday? I said I have made efforts to be around you everytime because of our mission. Are you deaf of what?" he chuckled while his tone remained cold. The two of them were catching too much attention because of Joy shouting at Light- people were looking at them, some were whispering. "I don't like to be late on my first day of class. Are you coming?" he said and threw her a cold gaze that froze her momentarily.

"I- I am!" she said as she ran to get to Light's side as he started to walk. Realizing what she had done [which has drawn much more attention], she backed away and tried to maintain at least a meter of gap between them and continued to walk. Light must have noticed the way she acted but he didn't cared and just walked.

They passed the wooden bridge and the old railings of train, the trees, and before they knew it, they were at the school grounds. Light suddenly stopped walking before enterring and looked at the gate which caused Joy to bump at him.

"What's your problem?" She asked angrily, irritation was obvious at her tone.

"Nothing" he coolly said and left her standing there while the other students passed by her.

"What a wierdo. Hmf~" She said and placed her hand on her hips by which someone grabbed onto.

"Hi Joy!" Mari exclaimed as she held her tight. Joy remembered what happened yesterday and when she was about to talk, Nick, their classmate and Mari's suitor came out from nowhere, smiling wide. Nick had a nice body built, but was an inch shorter than Light. He had dark brown eyes and hair and he wasn't too pale or too dark.

"Good morning Princess," he told Mari who was not really paying attention to him as she clung onto Joy. Seeing the students line up for the flag ceremony, they hurried and left Nick there all alone.

The ceremony was one of the things that Mari abhored due to the sun, but no complaint was heard from her today as the student council President, Stellar, wanted to do the flag raising ceremony every single day of the week which clearly displeased the student body. Curious about that, Joy looked at her in confusion.

"Normally, you would look so irritated when you arrive so early because of this ceremony but why do you look so pleased now?" Joy asked as Nick from the other line hissed at her.

"A transferee." Nick said, pouting because of the interest Mari was showing.

"Oh, a transferee." Joy said, wondering who the person was.

"I saw him yesterday talking to our adviser, and mind you, he is my type." Mari said, blushing and happy to see Nick being jealous. The bell rang so loud that it echoed in their ears for a moment as they hurried to get into their classrooms, excited to see the transferee, while Joy was suspicious on who it was.

"I must be forgetting something." she thought to herself.

At last, their adviser came because he is their first subject, which was World Literature Through the Ages. The students greeted him 'good morning' and he wrote something on the board which was a part of their lesson. Apart from that, he was to announce something.

"You have a transferee. Let me just call him." he said and went out. Joy somewhat felt suspicious as Mari, who sat before her desk grinned at her. Their room was wide and it has 46 students plus one who have just arrived, making it 47. All students have their own desks and there were 5 rows while each row had 10 chairs and desks and the top ten students sat on the back while the students that were most likely to flop were placed up front, for monitoring. On the last row, there were the only 2 vacant chairs because the top 3 was placed there. Joy was first and she was sitting on the side of the window, Fallon Bane was second and she was on the side of the door, and Nick is third, with Mari as fourth, but the seating arrangement was made so that there will be no clashing between the ranks 1 and two. (As stated a while ago, there were 5 rows and it was Joy, a vacant chair, Nick, another vacant chair, then Fallon.

At last, a familiar face started to walk into the room. In Joy's sight, it was like everything was on slow motion that the only thing she could hear were the rapid beating of her heart, her breath, and the footsteps of the person approaching. His hair was so shiny that she wanted to touch or caress them. His eyes looked so beautiful that it intensified his attractiveness, and his cold expression on his face made her heart jump for Joy. It was like seeing him for the first time.

When she snapped out her thoughts, everyone seemed to be astound to his appearance, especially the girls, even Fallon Bane.
