First year

The first of our group to go to the sorting hat is Cedric, who, sure enough, gets sorted into Hufflepuff. Next are Ava and Sophie. Sophie, like Ced gets sorted into Hufflepuff. Ava, on the other hand, gets sorted into Revenclaw.

"King, Jake" I hear my name get called out and confidently walk to the sorting hat.

The hat only went over the memories I showed it. "Hm, you're a tricky one to be sure Mr. King. You fit all the house except Gryffindor, you always think before you act."

By this point I get that I'm supposed to say which house I want to be sorted into so I think in my head "please Ravenclaw." No, I don't want to be in Ravenclaw because of Ava. Though admittedly that is a plus, the real reason I want to be in Ravenclaw is the books. The more books I have access to, the more knowledge I can read and, most importantly, the more data Jarvis will be able to collect for more detailed research.

"Hm, Ravenclaw it is" says the hat right before bellowing "Ravenclaw! The Ravenclaw tablet immediately starts clapping at their new member. I swiftly make my way to Ava and sit next to her.

Ava turns to me with a smirk and remarks "I didn't take you for a Ravenclaw. From your display with Max on the train, I took you for a Gryffindor." I give her a wounded look and remark "I'll have you know that I never do anything before thinking about. It wounds me that you have such an opinion of me" as I put a hand over my heart as if she shot me there.

"That's what they all say" says Ava with an amused smile. "Wow Ava, you are such a meanie. I don't think we can be friends if you are going to mistreat me like that."

Ava lets out a small giggle and punches me on the shoulder, "shut up you idiot."

When we start eating, Ava and I look towards the Hufflepuff table when we notice Sophie sitting next to Cedric with a huge blush on her face. I turn to Ava with a cheeky smile. "You want to have a bet?" As though she read my mind she smirks at me and says "thirty quid says they will get together by next year."

"Nah, thirty quid they will get together on our third year."

"Deal" she says as we give each other a handshake to make the bet official.

"You are so going down" she tells me with a happy smile.

"Sure, keep telling yourself that blondy." I reply wich earns me another punch on the shoulder.

Once we arrive at our common room, our house prefect starts telling us about all the rules. "The girls' dormitories are up the stairs on the right and the boys' dormitories on the left. Everyone's rooms are the same aside from one exception for both the boys and girls. He points to a ranking on the wall. These are our house rankings. You position on the rankings is based on you grades so, if you have the best grades in your year, you will be ranked first. Whoever has the highest rank amongst your gender gets a special room. Trust me when I say the special rooms are far more comfortable."

When the prefect is done explaining everything, Ava whispers "so, are you ready to be number 2?"

"Keep dreaming Ava."

The next morning, it is finally time for my first lesson: charms. As it so happens, we share this class with Hufflepuff. "Hey Jake, sleep well?"

"Like a baby. How about you?"

"Lucky you, my roommate snored like a pig all night."

"Haha, unlucky mate."

"Wow. You're such a good friend." Ava and Sophie suddenly came up from behind us and joined in. "Yeah Jake, is that how you treat your friends?"

"Why do you all have to gang up on me" I say as I wipe away a fake tear.

"Aww you poor baby. Come one we need to get to class, do you want me to hold your hand or are you going to be ok?" Says Ava with a cheeky smile.

"I don't think I like you guys anymore" I respond with a mock hurt expression.

And so a week comes and goes. By this point, it is clear to almost everyone in the year that my group of four has the most talent in the year. I am not going to hide my talent away for fear of getting Dumbledore's attention. I never understood in my past life why some people thought Dumbledore was so evil. It's pretty clear to me that he truly wants good to prevail. I do agree that some of his actions were questionable at best. Like, for example, his decision to leave Harry with the Dursleys.

Dumbledore definitely is manipulative and that's something I don't like about him, but it does not make him evil like some depicted him. I mean the man gave his life to stop Voldemort, what more proof do you need to see that he actually is a selfless man.

Back to my classes, all four of us had impressed most of our teachers. However, the one I want to impress the most is Prof. Flitwick. I'm hoping that if I impress him enough he would consider personally teaching me how to duel. Being taught dueling by a dueling champion is definitely not something I want to miss.

Every day, I go to the library, get a few books out and let Jarvis scan them one by one while I read my own book. He is already coming up with some research. For example, he managed to shorted the wand movement for a few spells like 'wingardium leviosa'.

By the second week, I come to remember something crucial that I should have remembered a long time ago: the room of requirements. So one day at lunch I gather the four of us to talk.

"Hey guys, I found something really cool yesterday. I found the room of requirements." They all look at me slack jawed. "We can go there together when we have free time and practice whatever we want. The room will give us whatever we need."

Cedric gives me a firm nod and says "sounds like a plan."

I look at all of them and ask "ok, so we're all in?"

"Of course" they all say in unison. Helping them all practice is extremely important given what's coming in the future. I refuse to let any of them die. The triwizard tournament is my greatest worry. I don't think I can stop Cedric from putting his name in the goblet so I'm just going to have to put my name as well and hope that the goblet chooses me.

If we all train extensively in the room of requirements, I'm sure Cedric will be able to easily handle Wormtail and avoid death at first. However, I would rather not put him in such a risky situation.

"Alright, so we all meet up in front of the room of requirements at 6pm?"

"Yep" replied Ava.
