"Adapt and overcome, we are UA students after all!" The prep continued, directing everyone with his robotic motions as the bus doors opened.
Red was leaning her forehead on the window with her eyes closed by the time he got on, Earlobe next to her and Ponytail and Icyhot behind her. Figures the two hearing quirk girls would sit together, they're probably all bonded and shit with their sensitive ears.
Icyhot was asleep on Ponytail's shoulder, and he frowned. The guy that brought him down from his high horse with his sheer display of power during training, was with the other recommended student? He had time to be that powerful, gun for the number one hero spot, and still have someone by his side? Katsuki 'tch'ed and looked away, a foreign feeling twisting in his gut. He's had the occasional hook up at the bars Shitty Hair drags him to, but hadn't considered it in college.
The bus ride continued for a minute or two, before he looked away from the window with a start when he heard Kirishima say his name.
"Well, if any of us have pro quirks, it's gotta be Bakugo and Todoroki."
He bristled at being compared to half and half, but was satisfied to hear assurance of his strength again after that last training. That had been beyond shitty. Deku had magically gained a quirk, Red somehow passed despite drinking, and Icyhot showed overwhelming power. It had been a reality check for Katsuki, that's for sure.
"Sure, but Bakugo is always angry, so he won't be very popular." The Frog next to Deku added. He felt his face heat in anger.
"WHAT DID YOU SAY? HUH? I'LL KICK YOUR ASS!" Katsuki shouted, leaping out of his seat. He saw the two sound girls jump and internally grinned. Good, if he doesn't get to sleep, neither does she.
Little Red let out a painfully long yawn and he almost felt bad, remembering she had an adventure in the middle of the night thanks to him, and was then harassed by those Gen Ed extras through the morning. Katsuki had stopped the Gen Ed tools before they spoke to her through the day after she ignored him, but he wasn't able to stop all of them. They seemed to be back on good terms though at least, so the effort wasn't in vain. He was distracted when he saw Kirishima turn to her.
"Oh man, I totally forgot, Olivia! We were planning to send a full extraction team to Gen Ed after we got that text! What was up with that?"
Red hit her head hard on the window as she twitched in surprise at his question. She glanced over at Katsuki, and he avoided her gaze, staring moodily out the window. He knew what was coming.
"I ran into my door last night and it broke, and I couldn't sleep well after, so I went to see a friend in General Education. I... wasn't aware that some of his classmates are… bitter towards the hero classes. I'm sorry if I worried you guys."
Katsuki frowned, looking back at her. He thought for sure she'd mention how he blew her fucking door off the hinge when he heard her scream bloody murder, thanks to that Monkey being incapable of installing the damn panels correctly. He wasn't enjoying how his guilt was growing from her protecting him. Once he made it up to her, he would be free. Maybe he could let her tag along on his runs or something…
"You should've come to my room then, I've always wondered if the curtains match the drapes..." Mineta drooled. His anger spiked. If that had happened, it also would've been his fault, and that didn't sit well with him either. Tapeface got to it first, and Red gave the guy a thankful look as the tape covered Mineta's mouth.
"You should be careful where you wander when you drink, ribbit." Frog spoke up.
"I wasn't drinking." Little Red chuckled softly, looking at the ground.
"Then… how did you manage to break your door?" Deku asked, turning to her with his big stupid eyes. Red's eyes met his own in alarm at her mistake, and he decided if she was protecting him, the least he could do was help her do it.
"Shut up you damn nerd! Why do you always ask so many questions?!" Katsuki exploded, taking over the conversation. Red sagged in relief, and avoided Pinky's pointed look.
"A-ah sorry, K-kacchan!" Deku stammered, waving his arms in front of his face in surrender. Now Katsuki was actually annoyed.
"Chill out Bakugo, Deku was just curious!" Chipmunk yelled, defending the nerd. She seemed to be oblivious to Deku's colored face as she did, and Katsuki scoffed.
"Hey now, stop messing around. We're here." Aizawa said, standing up.
They all got off the bus, Red walking quickly away from the confined area.
As he walked inside with the rest of the class, he looked around in quiet surprise. It looked like a damn amusement park. Kirishima echoed his thought, showing how long they've known each other. The Marshmallow in front of them said each zone was meant for a different rescue scenario, shipwreck, landslides, fire, wind storms, and more. Katsuki winced slightly when the wind and shipwreck zones were mentioned. Not only was his quirk not rescue material, but water dilutes his sweat, and the wind dries it, as well as blows out some of his explosions. Man, this was gonna suck.
"I created this facility to prepare you for any disaster, the Unforeseen Simulation Joint, or the USJ!" The puffed up hero in front of them declared, gesturing to the place proudly.
As Aizawa started talking to the hero, Katsuki overheard Red and Froggie having their own conversation about being excited to use their well suited rescue quirks. He frowned at that. What does a hearing and voice quirk have to do with rescue anyway? Now that he thought about it, she didn't seem to be sensitive to all sounds, seeing as he's caught her off guard multiple times…
Marshmallow finished their speech- wait, they had been talking?- and Aizawa started his own sentence before the lights flickered out. What the hell?
Red stiffened as she watched Aizawa. Maybe this was another rational deception of his and she caught on. He kicked himself for not thinking of that. The fountain started going off erratically in front of the students, and a purple mist was forming behind the teachers who didn't seem to notice. Okay, so definitely a rational deception. Thank god, they weren't doing rescue after all today! No wonder Red was so stiff and alert.
He was taken out of his thoughts though, as Monkey started moving like little Red had. Monkey grabbed Red and the Invisible Chick and pulled them behind him as he crouched into a tense fighting stance, tail twitching anxiously. Katsuki hadn't realized mist coming out of a fucking foutain was a big deal, and pegged the guy as an overreacter like Red.
What he didn't expect was for Icyhot and Ponytail to also shift into anxious fighting positions, Icyhot's hand misting over in ice. What the hell did they know that he didn't?! He growled, frustrated, and the noise snapped Red's eyes to his own. He paused. She looked… fucking terrified. The same terrified eyes she had... last night...
"Sensei, those are villians! The mist is a gate or-"
Monkey's panicked voice was cut off by Aizawa turning around, and upon seeing the mist, yelling, "Stay together and don't move!"
Katsuki's blood chilled as he realized this was real. It wasn't another annoying game of 'the little red shit that cried villain'. It was real. It was fucking real.
Villains had actually managed to infiltrate UA.
The gate sputtered, taking the form of a shadowy figure, as a man walked out. He looked like death had claimed him before spitting him back out, hands covering his face and body.
"Thirteen, protect the students!"
Icyhot's ice swirled around his hand, Ponytail had already created a shield and had it in front of Icyhot and herself. Red had crouched- no way that clumsy excuse of an adult knew how to fight- into a similar fighting stance as Monkey, and his own hands started crackling. They were adults. The teachers needed to let them fight and they fucking knew it. Everyone had understood the danger by now, and they were ready.
Red was desperately fiddling with the buttons on her glove. "Mr. Aizawa, there are more of them!"
"How many?!" He snapped, not taking his eyes off of the portal.
"So many... I-I I can't… Over 60, at least- There are too many voices, make it stop!" She pleaded.
Aizawa used his quirk on her for a second, before immediately ending the effect. Katsuki didn't have time to consider what her quirk could be, or how she knew that stuff, or even the fact it wasn't water she was sipping, but something dark red. He didn't have time at all, because at that moment, villains started pouring out of the portal.
Katsuki corrected his mental assessment a third time. This wasn't a training. It wasn't even a villain fight anymore.
It was a fucking war, and they were outnumbered at least 3 to 1. If they weren't careful... -He looked at little Red, watching anxiously as she took another sip of wine-… then someone was going to die.
