Star Skyline crouched next to Mashirao, falling easily into a fighting stance. This wasn't the first time they had fought side by side, but that was martial arts training, not a villain attack. It hadn't been enough to stop her from being taken back then, and she could hear Mashirao questioning if it wouldn't be enough now either.
"Thirteen, protect the students!"
She could hear Tomura Shigaraki and Kurogiri's minds faintly, enough to hear them say the name of the other. She opened her mouth to tell Mr. Aizawa this, when she was suddenly flooded with voice, after voice, after voice. They were distant and faint, too jumbled and too far away to distinguish words, but there were so many that the buzzing grew in volume until she was reaching for her ears. She found them blocked by the headphones Melissa had made her, and remembered to reach for her glove controls instead.
"Mr. Aizawa, there are more of them!" She bit out, fiddling with the buttons on her glove, getting used to all the settings the genius had added, before all the minds came closer.
First button was for canceling out noises around her when she needed to concentrate on hearing a faraway or specific mind's voice.
The next three buttons were for the sound-masking device inside of her headphones. It emitted an external sound to help mask the tinnitus that she used to only get when over using her quirk, but after the incident, is now there permanently.
The last two buttons adjusted the volume of the device. First was volume up, second was volume down. The buzzing was getting louder, she could barely hear Aizawa's question in his mind, and he had to repeat it outloud for her.
"How many?!" He snapped, not taking his eyes off of the portal. Star panted as the words became audible, drowning her mind, she needed to dull it, there were too many, even at a low volume it was overwhelming, she couldn't even think straight-
"So many… I-I I can't… Over 60, at least- there are too many voices, make it stop!" Star whimpered, leaning on Mashirao as her head spun. Aizawa activated his quirk for less than a second on her, but it was long enough for her to locate her mouthpiece and bring it to her lips. She took a long sip as Aizawa's hair fell back down. It didn't have the same fast effect as hard liquor, which she no longer had thanks to Bakugo, but it was enough to help dull her mind and allow her to think straight.
Star turned back to the portal and her mouthpiece fell from her lips in shock. There it was. The reason she and Hitoshi had been taken. Her heart started pounding, and her body trembled. A creature, standing taller than any of the other villains, looking decidedly inhuman with it's exposed brain and unmoving face and body. The Nomu.
=Hitoshi's screams of horror mixed with the Nomu's terrible screech=
Star's own scream ripped through her throat.
=as the people fell one by one, dead, her own scream ringing in her ears=
Star was suddenly no longer seeing the lab, the creature was gone from her sight, and she was back. She looked up at Mishirao and he was in between her and the portal, blocking it from her line of sight. "Breathe, Sta-Olivia. You need to breathe." Her gaze flickered past him and he shook her shoulders gently to get her attention back. "Don't try and look past me, focus on me."
As Star got a hold of herself, Todoroki appeared at her side. Mishirao let go of her shoulders, and gestured at Todoroki to replace him. When his hands met her shoulders she felt the questions barrage her. Is that it? Is that one of the creatures? We need to know the quirks-
"I know! I- there were so many creatures, but this was the first... I- I think this one was… regeneration? And-" As she tried to remember the Nomu-
=She felt Hitoshi's agony and guilt on top of her own, they were the reason these people died=
Todoroki snapped his finger in front of her face. What else Olivia, you need to focus. He mentally reminded her.
"S-shock absorption." Star responded, shivering.
=The cold seeped into her bones as she sank to her knees on the concrete=
She felt heat on her shoulders from his hand, and Todoroki didn't say a word as she shook. He didn't need to. He had realized what was happening to her, seeming to understand things better than he let on.
"So you scumbags used the press as a cover to sneak onto campus?" Aizawa glared at the villains, pulling his glasses down into place.
"Where is he... I went through the trouble of bringing so many friends who are eager to meet him…" The crawling voice said back.
"Olivia, who?" Eraser Head snapped. Star let all the minds smash into hers again as she momentarily leaned away from Todoroki. Every villain had the same name running through their minds, like a mantra she was an outsider to.
"A-all M-might…" Star breathed. She could feel Todoroki's interest in her comment.
"I can't believe he's not here…" The villain's pitch raised, putting his arms out from his side. "Maybe if I kill a few of his wannabe hero students… He'll come out to play…"
Star could feel the murderous intent of all the villains and shuttered, hands shaking as she realized they were going to kill them all.
Eraser Head's hair and scarf flew up around him, signalling his quirk had been activated.
"Thirteen, why are the alarms not sounding?" Momo pointed out. Todoroki looked up at her.
Kaminari nodded, "I can't get a single thing on here." he said, tapping his headset.
"Then the villains must have a quirk that masks their presence. We just need to find out if they are attacking the whole school, or just here." Todoroki analyzed, standing up from where he had crouched next to Star. "Whatever they planned, they must have a concrete objective in mind, but what is it?"
"The Anti Symbol of Peace, bioengineered to kill the one called All Might, Symbol of Peace." Star quoted shakily, hearing the masked scientist's voice speaking in her memories at the same time she spoke out loud. She felt detached, drifting back and forth.
Everyone grew silent as they took this information in.
"Tch, yeah right, nothing can kill All Might." Bakugo snapped, but there was an edge to his voice. He pushed past Todoroki to Star. Todoroki didn't seem to mind as he returned to Momo, talking to her in hushed tones. Star shivered as Bakugo lifted her to her feet, unable to acknowledge the questions in his burning eyes.
