Recovery (2)

Lorraine put some new clothes on and went into Ren's room to see how he was doing.

From the look of him, he looked completely at rest. He wasn't moving at all. Ren was completely still. Too still.

Lorraine stepped closer and observed Ren more closely. She noticed that his chest wasn't rising and falling anymore.

"Did he stop breathing?" she panicked.

She quickly put her fingers just below his jaw on his neck to check for a pulse and held her head so that her ear was just above his mouth to listen for breathing at the same time.

She couldn't feel or hear anything.

"He's not dead is he?!"

She began to get very scared.

"No, no, no, no, no, no!"

She placed one hand over another and pressed the palm of her hand on Ren's sternum and began to push his chest in. However, because he was on a bed mattress, the chest barely compressed.

She took hold of Ren's body and pulled him off of the bed and onto the floor and then started doing compressions.

"Thank God I took a CPR class in high school!"

After doing thirty compressions, she stopped and looked at Ren's lips. She hesitated, but then shook her head.

"This is the time to feel awkward!"

She titled his head in order to ensure his airway was open and placed her lips on his and blew air into his lungs, stopped, and then repeated once more before going back to compressions.

"Please, wake up!"

She looked around but didn't think there was an AED anywhere in the house.

"Should I call 911?" she thought as she gave Ren two more breaths, then switched back to compressions.

"Ren please wake up!" Lorraine was crying now.

She didn't know what else to do. She didn't want to call 911, but Ren's life was in danger!

She stopped and pulled out her phone and tapped on the phone icon.

Just as she was about to type 911 when Ren sat up, his eyes wide, looking dead straight at the wall.

"Ren?!"

Ren's eyes returned to normal and then he turned his head so he was looking at Lorraine's beautiful face. A smile emerged on his face.

"Hey. How are you?" he asked like nothing ever happened.

Tears still trickling down her face she lunged forward and hugged Ren tight.

Ren was surprised at this reaction, "Hey, did something happen?"

"Of course not, you only almost died!" she sniffled.

"Oh, so the usual then."

Smack!

Lorraine slapped Ren across the face.

Ren's eyes grew wide with surprise, but then Lorraine grabbed his head and tilted it towards hers. She leaned in and gave him a nice long kiss before pushing him away.

"Don't you dare act like your life means nothing!" she whimpered.

After a long silence, she smiled and started to laugh, and Ren joined in.

"So where is everyone and where are we?" Ren asked still laughing.

Lorraine explained everything to him. She described how he was screaming and that everyone else had went on ahead to Texas to try and take in down.

"By themselves!" Ren shouted in surprise. "There's no way. We need to leave right away!"

Ren moved his feet onto the floor and attempted to stand, but as soon as he did, his head exploded with pain and he feel right back down."

"You aren't going anywhere, you need rest!" Lorraine declared.

Ren didn't realize it until he stood, but he felt extremely weak. His entire body was trembling.

"Hold on, I'll get you something to eat." Lorraine stood and left the room and came back a few minutes later with a ham sandwich and some milk.

Ren scarfed in down in three bites and then gulped the milk down.

"You got anymore?" Ren asked.

Lorraine smiled and got Ren all the food that he wanted until he felt full.

After this he laid back down and fell asleep.

After about ten hours of sleep, he woke back up. The sun had gone down as it was the middle of the night. He sat up and realized Lorraine had fallen asleep on a chair and half of her body was lying on his bed.

Ren smiled and ran his fingers through her hair. Her white hair was soft and luscious to the touch.

"Wow," Ren whispered at this.

He looked out the window at the stars in the dark night. The situation felt familiar to him, only this time he wasn't being held captive. He was free.

He looked back down at Lorraine.

"Why did she kiss me? Was it just because she was glad I lived or was it something more?"

He laid back down and decided to to try and go back to sleep, but he couldn't.

As quietly and gently as he could, he got out of bed and stood up.

He wobbled, but he regained his balance and slowly made his way to the bathroom. After, taking off his shorts, he stepped into a hot shower.

"Man, when was the last time I took a shower?"

After his shower, he strolled into the kitchen and made himself a turkey sandwich and grabbed a box of crackers.

When walking over to the couch, he knocked into the corner of the table. Strangely, it didn't hurt at all. He looked at the corner of the table, which wasn't there anymore. It was on the floor.

"That's not good."

He bent down and picked up the corner piece of the table and placed it on the table.

He lifted his shirt and saw a white spot on his right side. He touched it, but he didn't feel anything.

"What in the world?"
