Trenton seeing her now sparkling eyes grew nervous making him look down and away- "I mean only if you want to."
Hermione excitedly grabbed his hands shaking them- "Oh would I, I would love to be your friend."
Trenton smiled- "That makes you my first friend."
Hermione smiling back- "Yes your my first friend as well."
"Well in that case that makes us best friends." Trenton sheepishly said
"Best friends?" Hermione asked, still not believing she even had a friend and suddenly it's a best friend.
"Yeah, best friend, it means your favorite friend and well since you're my first and only," he said scratching his face nervously.
Hermione sounding a bit irked said- "I know what it means," Then she said more softly- "I just didn't think I would ever have a friend let alone a best friend."
Trenton not sweating it stated as a matter of fact- "Well now you do."
Hermione smiled- "Yes we can be BFF's"
Trenton- "BFF's?"
Hermonie thinking she went too far retracted her statement- "I, huh, I mean BF's"
Trenton- "Oh you mean best friends right? whats the other f?"
Hermione now shyly looking down softly answered- "Forever."
Trenton barely catching it asked- "Forever? Oh wait, so it's best friends forever?"
Hermione quietly nodded without looking up in case he wasn't happy.
Trenton- "I like that, sounds amazing, yes we are best friends forever, BFF's, this is so cool I didn't think I would have one either."
Hermione surprised looked back up- "Really?"
Trenton- "Yeah let's have lots of fun together!"
Hermonie happily said- "Yes." but her mood took a turn again when she realized she didn't know what to do now that she had a friend.
"What's wrong now?" he asked
Hermonie embarrassed asked- "What do friends do?"
Trenton- "Oh that's easy, they hang out and play together."
Hermione knowing that he would likely not like the same things she liked, having never met another kid who wanted to read and study like her, decided it was best to let him pick the activity.
Hermione- "So what do you want to do?"
Trenton- "Well first we should get to know each other better, I just recently moved here and don't know what kids like around here, what do you like to do?"
Hermione deflected the question not wishing to tell him- "Well what do you like?"
Trenton- "Ah, okay I'll go first, I like reading the most and spending time outdoors when I'm not busy reading."
Hermione brightened up- "I like reading too!" she excitedly proclaimed after finding a fellow reader who just became her friend.
The bell for the next group rang.
Trenton hearing it was a bit sadden that they have to part so soon- "Well that's the bell for us, when we have free time maybe we can read together and share what we've already read."
Hermione also a bit sad happily replied- "Yes, I would like that very much."
After school, he met Hermione again but could only tell her goodbye as the bus to his house arrived and she was leaving with her parents.
Hermione excitedly told her parents how she made a new friend as she arrived home only for the bus to be right behind them.
Her parents enjoyed picking her up so she didn't ride it.
Trenton was surprised though when he stepped out and saw her and her parents heading to the house next door.
He excitedly ran behind her and yelled out- "Hello again Hermione."
Hermione got a bit of a fright at the unexpected voice calling her name as she turned around with wide eyes asking- "What are you doing here?"
Trenton with a giant grin on his face- "Turns out I'm your new neighbor."
Her parents a bit worried, knowing she's had problems with bullies, asked- "Hermione who is this?"
Hermione turned to them with a smile- "This is Trenton, my new friend I was telling you about."
Trenton nodding along with what she said- "Yes, I'm Trenton, Hermione's new friend and neighbor it seems, nice to meet you Hermione's parents." he gave a greeting wave.
Mrs. Granger, happy to meet her daughter's new friend who also stood up for her, gave him a warm hug surprising the boy- "Oh your so cute, I'm happy you made friends with my daughter."
Hermione complained- "Mooom, stop it."
Mrs. Granger- "Oh hush, it's not every day I get to meet your friends, plus he's our neighbor we have to show him how friendly we are."
Mr. Granger coughed- "I think that's enough, we don't know if his parents would like us hugging him."
Mrs. Granger just snorted- "You just shush, Trenton doesn't mind, after all, do you, my dear."
Trenton who was now blushing as he was just picked up and hugged didn't know what to say. It was also the first time he was called cute, most hated the way he looked with his red eyes- "Oh, ah, it's fine, it feels good to be hugged."
Mrs. Granger who relinquished him contained her enthusiasm to hug him again, he was just so adorable, granted she may have thought more so because he made her daughter so happy by becoming her first friend and helped to protect her from bullies.
The door to Trenton's house opened as his mother called out wondering why her son wasn't back yet only to spot him across the yard at the neighbors.
"Trenton."
"That would be my mom, I'll see you later Hermione." Trenton waved bye.
Mrs. Granger- "Ah Tell your mom we should have a family get together sometime when they're not busy."
Trenton answered, "Definitely." before rushing back home.
Mrs. Granger turned to her daughter after the boy left- "So friends huh?"
Hermonie not thinking much of it smiled- "Yes."
Mr. Granger- "He seems nice enough, I'm just glad you found a friend who can protect you when I'm not around."
Mrs. Granger was shocked- "I thought fathers are supposed to hate their daughter's boyfriends?"
Mr. Granger went bug-eye at her comment until he saw his wife's playful face- "Oh come off it, stop meddling woman, they're still young kids."
Hermione was also growing irritated by her mom's playful banter, without exactly getting what she meant, only knowing it wasn't anything good- "Mom, don't scare away my friend." she said stomping her foot.
Mrs. Granger smiling- "I wouldn't dream of it sweety, now come let's go inside and get you some dinner."
Mr. Granger mumbled to himself- "His eyes are a bit off-putting, its a good thing they aren't very red that they stand out too much." Even though he thought that, it was still unusual enough that everyone noticed it.
The girls however felt differently as Hermione loved it, her favorite color was red after all, and her mother thought it was neat and unique.
