Dinner with Alex

I crumpled the piece of paper in anger.

'Whoever is sending me these letters will pay! How dare they threaten to hurt me and my daughter!' I thought in anger. I tried to calm myself down before the next guests arrive. I can't act unprofessional in my workplace. I shook my head and straightened out my uniform.

"Welcome to the hotel."

~~

I sighed in content once my afternoon shift was over. I entered the changing room to change from my uniform, and saw some girls staring at me with anger.

I turned towards their direction with a frown. "Do you want something to say? If it's nothing good please shut your stares." I said, changed quickly and walked out of the door.

I knew already what those stares meant. Those were stares that were indirectly telling me I don't belong here or that I am a good for nothing. But..I don't care about what they think, because it is my life not theirs so they should not judge me, like they don't want to be judged.

I called a cab to take me home.

~~

"Hey Alex." I greeted him. He was in the living room with Mia sleeping on his lap.

He turned around once he heard me. "Oh hey Sasha. Don't worry I will carry Mia to bed." he told me and gently carried her upstairs.

I smiled at his action, sat on the sofa and waited for him. He came downstairs soon after.

He sat next to me in silence. I decided to break the ice " You know you have been a great uncle to Mia. Thank you for being there for us and that I am proud to know I have such a great companion. You know from now on I will call you big brother." I joked the last part. I wanted to tell him this just to remind him that I am grateful to him.

Weirdly Alex had a unreadable expression on his face and didn't say a word. He looked at me, his eyes intense and whispered. "So I am always going to be your family." it sounded like a statement but I took it as a question.

I blinked thrice confused by the sudden change and answer. "Of course you are my family. You are my cousin and like a big brother to me." I said forgetting that in the past, I had thoughts about him that wasn't like family at all, but my mind and heart was now clouded with Miguel.

"Even if we are not blood related?" he asked his face unreadable.

"Yes. Even if we are not blood related, I will still think of you as my family." I said determined. My foolish heart thought that he asked this question because he was insecure and thought I didn't really think of him as family, because we were not related by blood. But my mind knew that he asked this question because he did not want me to think of him as family...for certain reasons. I chose to side with my heart not believing that he may have feelings for me. After all, I was not inexperienced when it came to love, but it hurt me too many times so I decided to forget it all.

Suddenly he chuckled and then laughed. I was so confused. "Why are you laughing?" I asked.

He stopped to take his breath, touched his chin like in thought and said. "Oh yeah! Sasha you promised me to take me out to dinner." he said happily. I was weirded out on how he can change his moods so quickly.

"Yeah but Mia-"

He shut me up with his index on my lips. "No buts. I already called the babysitter to come and she's close by. Plus you said you will and I will not take no for an answer. Go upstairs, get dressed and we will have fun tonight."

"Yeah but-"

"Relax we are not going to a bar for goodness sake. I will take you out to dinner since you need to relax and not stress out." he said in a matter of fact voice."

I sighed and gave in. "But you must take me out somewhere nice since I, Sasha Amelia am not cheap." I said in a British accent.

We blinked vigurously and then laughed.

'Maybe this can take my mind of the letter and...Miguel' I thought.

~~

I wore a red floral lace-off shoulder dress, that was above my knees and wore red ankle boots. I decided to just add on pink lipgloss and tied my hair in a high ponytail.

Once I came down stairs I saw Alex wore black plants with a black buttoned up shirt with the sleeves rolled up his arm. He looked quite handsome.

He looked at me up and down and smiled. He extended his hand. "My lady."

I took it and said. "Good sir."

When we were kids we would always say these word's when we accompanied each other to an event for our family.

I guess tonight I can have a nice dinner with Alex, chat and forget all about my problems.
