Prologue: Next Steps

"Let's give another round of applause for our graduating seniors!" Said Headmaster Warren.

Even though I didn't care, I was obliged to clap.

"Now get the h*ll out of here and enjoy your summers everyone!"

I went along with the crowd and exited the auditorium.

Today was the last day of the academy semester. After today was a much needed summer vacation. We could still stay at the academy but I didn't want to. Even though I say that, I honestly had no plans. Should I go back to visit my parents? They'd probably want that as well. Then again, what's Sam going to do?

As I was busy contemplating on what to do, Rachel approached me.

"Daniel, what are you going to do over the summer?"

"I think I'm going to go back to visit my parents for a while." I said.

"And then?"

"Dunno."

"So you don't have anything planned after that?" She said it as if it was a good thing. Girl, do you have any idea how sad it is to not have a life outside of training everyday? Of course you wouldn't when you spend every moment of your life in a gym.

"Great! Then let's go to the Snowy Mountains together!"

"No." I immediately declined. Why would I want to spend my summer stuck on a mountain?

"Come on! It'll be fun! I have a mountain villa there so we can relax there!" She said.

"And what will we be doing there exactly?" I asked.

"Training!"

"No."

"We can also go sightseeing and eat delicious food!" That food part definitely appealed to my epicurean side.

"No." I said while looking at her bite her lips.

"I'll give you money." She said.

It would have been an appealing offer if I was broke...oh I am kind of broke. I reached my hands out to caress the precious three silvers in my pocket. This could last me about two weeks if spent properly and I needed even more money to access a portal to get home... Now that I think of it, her offer sounded pretty appealing but something about the idea of being brib—I mean paid was peculiar.

"Why don't you ask your other friends." I said to her.

She frowned and pouted at my response.

Now that I thought of it, I don't recall her hanging out with anyone other than me. Looks like I accidentally hit a sore spot.

"Your offer is definitely appealing, but I think I'll need some time to think about it." I said, trying to recover what I said before.

Hearing that, she smiled and left.

It seemed to work like a charm. Though I felt a bit uneasy about messing with her like that.

I had wings so I should be able to visit my parents via flight. I had once tested the Seraph Wings and boy were those fast. Even though it was my first time flying, I somehow adapted to the high altitudes pretty fast. The two pairs of wings on my back felt like an extension of my body. I could move each one of them separately. It felt like I had four extra arms on my back.

I walked around a bit before entering the boy's dormitory building and heading inside my dorm room.

As I opened the door, I saw Sam, Robert, and a tall guy next to Sam. Who the heck was this?

"Oh, hey Daniel." Sam and Robert said.

"This is my master." Sam introduced me to the tall guy who had black hair just like mine.

"Call me Dray." He simply said.

'Master? When did this guy get a master? And how come I didn't know?' Now that I thought of it, having a master would explain how Sam came back every night looking tired as h*ll.

I honestly wasn't too surprised since as a hero, Sam would obviously attract a lot of unnecessary attention from a lot of big shots. This master of his seemed kind of young though.

'Appraise.'

What the f*ck was this? This guy was definitely overpowered and all but one should know that I had upgraded my True Dragon Eyes to Legendary rarity yet I could barely see anything. What was this? Error? What even is that supposed to mean?

I pulled up the description of my True Dragon Eyes just to make sure there wasn't anything strange.

Since there wasn't anything wrong with the skill, then Sam's master was definitely some crazy guy whom I could not even begin to fathom the extent of his power.

'I probably shouldn't meddle with this guy.'

Thinking that, I looked at Robert who was already done packing his bag.

"Where are you headed so fast Robert?" I asked.

"Oh, I have orders from my family that I need to return at once. There seemed to be some type of commotion going on. Sorry about the celebration but I'll have to skip." He said.

The celebration he mentioned was something I thought of. I figured all three of us could go celebrate the last day of school at a fancy restaurant somewhere but I guess not.

"Sam, you going to go back and visit the village with me?" I asked Sam.

Instead of his response, his master, Dray answered for him. "I'll be taking Sam to train elsewhere."

"Uh, yeah. Say hi to my mom and Mister Davis for me." He said.

The three of them left shortly after...

Was this what it felt to be lonely?

"So have you decided?" Rachel said. Huh? You aren't supposed to be in this scene.

"Why are you in the boy's dorms?"

"Oh, I came in through the window. Have you decided yet?" She said it like it was nothing. It was still daytime so did no one see her climbing up the wall and entering? Wasn't this trespassing or an invasion of privacy?

"Hello? You in there Daniel?" She said, poking my right cheek.

"What's your choice?" She asked again.

I thought about her offer. I played it off as a joke before but now that even Sam left, I didn't know what to do. I had envisioned me and Sam going back to the village to surprise everyone and have a party or something similar but now...

"Fine." I finally gave an answer. This summer was probably going to be lonely without anyone so why not. You only live once right? It's not like I'm going to die in the mountains right?

"Great! Let's go visit your parents first then!" She said excitedly.
