Proper Meal Chapter 54

Mr. Stuart then tells Miriam she should hurry up and make sure all her things are well and packed to set off in a few hours time. Then her father consoles her abit more about her frightening experience before leaving the room.

Seeing the retreating figure of her father's brough shouldered back, Miriam once again determines he is a scummy dirtbag of a man.

Adalaide also disappeared from the doorway as well.

Tsk tsk, not caring to enform her of her sisters death the day he receives word of it. And then banging that maid Emma, probably not even a day after catching hold of such devastating news.

Sighing to herself, Miriam checks up on Twinkle and meets his beedy little eyed gaze, that almost says, 'Why are we alive, just to suffer.'

'Hmmm why did I think of this phrase, it seems familiar... I might have seen it on social media or something in my previous life...'

Shaking these thoughts away, Miriam then took a look around the room she was staying in, and after making a quick cursory inventory, decided to give Twinkle some water and fruit to help calm him down.

Afterwards she started to pick up any items of hers that might be strewn about the room.

Noticing the lunch trays were still set over on the table, Miriam went over and perused all the food.

Thinking about getting water to wash her hands with, Miriams 1# little helper arrived just in time to help her out!

Enter Bannon, his ruffled up hair had a few dandelion seeds stuck in it, and it made Miriam wanna laugh out loud.

Squeezing her eyes shut about to laugh, she winces in pain because her eyes are still all puffed up from her overzealous performance earlier.

Upon making his entrance into the bedroom, Bannon quite quickly notices his bossy little sister looks like she got in a fight with a giant house cat.

Long, but shallow scratches ran up and down her arms. There was even one or two of them on her cheeks that were still flushed a pinkish hue from crying earlier.

"What happened to you? Also...

who's that?" Bannon asked casually at first bit then became serious when he saw some strange looking boy in THEIR room.

"Ah, Jeremy that little demon attacked me. The boy I fished out of a pond while on my stroll this morning to find something to eat." She said to Bannon, answering both his questions.

Tilting his head slightly to the sode as if still perplexed, Bannon then smelt the delicious aroma coming from the table in the bedroom.

Quickly honing in on the freshly cooked food, Bannon happily glided over the wooden floor and came to a stop right infront of it.

Cornflour bread, freshly sliced, and topped with the fruit Miriam picked earlier that day.

The meat for the dish was a medium thickness slice of pork chop, about the size of a womans palm. A glass of what looked like green tea placed, one each, per food tray.

Finally a what looked like a fistful and a half of cooked white rice.

One tray also had an extra glass of water on it, presumably the water Miriam had requested of Beatrice earlier.

Bannon, curious as to how a child could be fished from a pond like a bass, naturally asked Miriam how she had done it.

Who knows, maybe he could have a talent for it too?

Miriam knew not of the silly thoughts in the five year olds head, she just calmly tried to explain her heroic feat logically.

"Well, I was walking when I heard some people approaching where I was, so being cautious since I was out walking around by myself, I hid in a hollowed out fallen tree log."

"And then?" Asked Bannon, as he started to eat from one of the food trays while listening to his sisters story.

"Someone tried to murder poor Otto, they pushed him into the lake after what seemed like an argument with an adult. Luckily, your little sister can swim like a seal, so I took off my outer layers and dove in to rescue him when I saw that the adult left."

Bannon narrowed his brownish colored eyes and said, "Wait, so you didn't catch him from the pond like a fish?"

Looking at him as if she had just seen a Bigfoot, Miriam chuckled as she responded to her brother, "No, you can't catch a person like a fish silly. Humans are much to smart for that kind of trick. Well, most of the time anyway."

Ah! He was decieved! Of course you can't catch people from ponds like fish. Maybe he needed to go to bed earlier tonight. Clearly his brain wasn't working quite right today.

The little aurburn haired boy continued to eat food from the tray, food that wasn't really meant for him...

"Hey, Otto was supposed to get one of those trays of food. You look like a little pig with a mop of red hair right now..." Miriam said, scolding Bannon for just eating food without asking who it belonged too first.

His eyes going wide open, he then whined to Miriam through a half full mouth of food, " Heyy idds mawh bedroom tooh, how am I supposid to know iht waddant for meh?"

"Erghhhh! Come here! Don't talk with your mouth full! Even Otto could probably eat in a more elegant manner than you!" Miriam said as she pattered over to Bannon and grabbed the still untouched tray of food next to him.

Needing to now share her food, Miriam felt a foreboding feeling that she would grow up to be a tiny flatchested woman even when she reached puberty...

Otto, was next to the bedside looking at Twinkle who was grumpily preening its feathers.

Looking up, Twinkle saw another little boys face hovering close by to him, for the second time today.

Shivers went up and down Twinkles spine.

Not this again! These fathers belong to this bird!

Twinkle fluffed out his feathers and clumsily took flight from off the bed and landed on the windmill next to the water dish. Feeling the sunlight beams that bathed over him suddenly through the thick window glass, Twinkle let out a little birdy sigh.

Sun! Thankyou for waiting for my return! Twinkle missed you very much too!

Seeing Twinkle take flight as soon as Otto came close to him, Miriam let out a little sigh.

Why did that little devil Jeremy have go traumatize a perfectly tame little bird?

Walking over to the bedside, Miriam set the food tray ontop of the bed, and carefully slid onto the bed herself.

Time to eat a proper meal!
