Alene was sitting in the compartment with Lily and Severus discussing the curriculum. To others, it may sound boring but Alene was fascinated with learning new things especially when she needed the knowledge to achieve something.
This was no different with James only he needed more motivation to start learning for a goal.
When the train came to stop Alene had left her trunk and Oppi in the train and only took her wand and a book "Magical drafts and potions". Walking out of the train Alene turned around to the sound of a man with a deep robust voice.
"Fi'st years this way, th'is way" Alene looked at a tall man. She stayed silent as she followed him to the boats. "On'ly three per b'oat" Alene quickly boarded a boat alone. Severus and Lily had taken a different boat and James was with his newly made friends.
Although it stung that she was alone left by James she knew it was her fault. If she hadn't gone and sat with Lily and Severus this would have never happened. She was quiet and kept to herself hoping that someone would join her.
Yet sadly enough as the boat started drifting on the lake she was still alone. She was on one of the last boats and overlooked all first years. They all seemed to happy and laughed together with their friends.
At this point, Alene was just mesmerised by the castle. It stood tall and proud filled with dazzling lights. The lights of the castle were beautifully reflected on the chilly lake. Alene wanted to take a photo of the castle so this moment could be set in stone forever.
reaching the shore there was an older witch in marvellous green robes that seemed to shine in the light coming from the castle. She had a stern look and told them to follow her to the castle. Alene started walking and saw James moving over towards her.
"Hey," she said in a soft voice. She felt regretful towards her actions. She was stubborn since she was young. She remembered times where she would get the short end of the stick because of her stubbornness.
"Hey!" James seemed to have forgotten the incident at the train and just took her hand as they were walking into the castle. The older witch with the stern gaze introduced herself and Professor McGonagall and told them they would be sorted once they enter that door.
After she disappeared for some time the doors opened to reveal a dining hall full of students separated into four different tables.
The house emblems were above each table. Ravenclaw had their eagle, Hufflepuff had their badger, Gryffindor had their Lion and Slytherin had their snake. As she walked forwards to Professor McGonagall who help a scroll and sorting hat she suddenly felt nervous.
Is that hat supposed to sort her into her house? Before Alene could come up with even more questions, the big brown and dirty hat seemed to come alive and started to sing.
"Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,
But don't judge on what you see,
I'll eat myself if you can find
A smarter hat than me.
You can keep your bowlers black,
Your top hats sleek and tall,
For I'm the Hogwarts Sorting Hat
And I can cap them all.
There's nothing hidden in your head
The Sorting Hat can't see,
So try me on and I will tell you
Where you ought to be.
You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart;
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil;
Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you have a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;
Or perhaps in Slytherin
You'll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
So put me on! Don't be afraid!
And don't get in a flap!
You're in safe hands (though I have none)
For I'm a Thinking Cap!"
Alene started to calm herself down, thinking to her self in a positive way. What's the worst that can go wrong if the hat did not place her in Gryffindor. If she was placed in Slytherin she knew her great aunt Doria would be thrilled with the news. Ravenclaw would be promising as well because her mother used to be in that house. Lastly, Hufflepuff, it was likely the house where she would make the most friends but not a favourable one.
Great aunt Doria seemed to hate the house with passion. She could accept Gryffindor, Ravenclaw but not Hufflepuff. "Potter, James" This immediately broke Alene out of her trance. She realized that James was not already walking up the small stair to the sorting hat. He had a proud yet goofy grin on his lips and seemed so confident.
The hat was only placed on his hat for a second and it screamed "GRYFFINDOR". The Gryffindor table seemed to break out in cheers. James smiled at her and mouthed 'you'll do great' This treasured her especially since her name was called next.
She slowly walked up to the creaky old chair and sat down. She looked as James who had already taken his place at the Gryffindor table. He sat next to Pettigrew, Black and Lupin. Alene realized she had missed their sorting as well as the one from Lily and Severus. She saw Lily sitting next to some girls but she did not see Severus on the Gryffindor table she could only assume he made it into Slytherin.
Feeling the hat placed on her head. she started taking deep breaths in the hopes that the sorting hat would quickly sort her. 'MMm...' Alene would have jumped if she did not know it was a magical hat. 'I see, I see.' 'Sharp mind, creative for sure...' 'Very stubborn I see, also very brave...' 'now where would you flourish best...' Alene could barely understand the numbering inside her head but she knew that she would just deal with whatever house she got.
"GRYFFINDORR"
