I walk into a big open room with lots of tables and two counters, one for exchange and one for requests. There are gruff people all around that smell of monster blood and some people that smell of human blood. To my right is the ever-faithful murder floof munching on some chicken kabobs from the food venders in the street. I take a bite of my steak kabobs before walking up to the counter and asking to sign up as an adventurer.
It has been a couple of weeks since Sophia and I killed off the waves in the area. The viscount acted as a mediator between the king and myself which helped because I don't know shit about politics. My past life only had the odd politician that I ruined for life, but that was only posting their dirty laundry out in the open.
The main topic that was discussed were ways the kingdom could support me in clearing out the waves. I demonstrated my summoning magic and explained how I can send them to all the rifts in the world at the same time with magic. I didn't want to explain more of my abilities so when they asked, I just said, "Magic!", while doing jazz hands.
I wanted them to only focus on the safety of their civilians and told them that if a gate appears near a town they should evacuate and let the elementals handle the monsters. When some nobles that wanting fame and more political power complained about it, I said they could always donate money to help in preparation for the waves.
They shut up when it came to money because they were greedy fucks.
Coming home I talked with Sophia and the villagers about going around and exploring the world. They were very happy to hear that someone from their village would be traveling with a hero, but Sophia's parents were sad about their daughter leaving home. I took a magic phone out of the gate and gave one to each of them so they could keep in touch with their daughter. I was rewarded with a happy wolf hug from Sophia.
We traveled from city to city before finding ourselves in our current one registering as adventurers.
Because some people in the viscount's army were chatter boxes, word spread quickly about a fifth hero that has the lower half of a snake. People in the guild took notice as soon as I walked in the door, but while I was registering as an adventurer the shadier ones acted.
The receptionist walked away with some money I got from selling weak monsters that attacked us on the road when a young woman walked up to start trouble.
"Why does a monster like you want to register as an adventurer? Ready to start killing your own kind for profit? Or did you need money to pay for a bath because you smell like shit from living in the woods?", she says with an overconfident look on her face from insulting me.
"Are you stupid?", I deadpan at her.
She takes a second because she wasn't expecting that answer from me.
"Wha! Is that all you can think to say? Where did that even come from?", she asks in embarrassment and confusion.
"You have heard I stopped a wave with only my partner here, right? I think that anyone with half a brain would understand that I am a very dangerous person. Even if you don't want to believe the rumors most have to come from some truth. If you pick a fight do you think you can win?", I ask and it registers in her mind that I am a hero with a legendary weapon that took down a wave with only one person in my party.
Her face turns white and she returns to her table before a pompous prick stands up and strides over.
"So, what if you did take on a wave? How are we supposed to believe you did it with only two people? The knights were there to witness it, so who says they didn't take care of it while you just dealt with some small fry. I bet the nobles are just trying to hype up your achievements to prevent outcry from the public.", he says and goes to kick my tail, but is met with a fist to the face sending him flying out of the guild and being embedded into the ground outside. Ouch.
I look over to see an angry murder floof with a slightly bruised knuckle.
"Sophia! Look what you've done! I told you not to fight with your strength because you just started strength training. Look at your knuckles.", I reprimand her for not taking proper care of her body.
That woman from earlier comes up while I heal Sophia and starts rambling on about how adventurers fighting each other in the guild is against the rules. I point out we aren't adventurers yet and she shuts up before being punted out the doors by a wind spell. I didn't like her face.
The receptionist walks back into the now quiet room with our adventurer plates. We pocket them and make our way out of the guild, picking up missions for later.
We are staying at a nice hotel in the city. It was booked because this is a trading hotspot, but we got a single room with a large bed to cuddle on. That's right! Our relationship has progressed to cuddling with each other on the same bed. I love wrapping my Sophia with my tail. So, satisfying.
We spend a few more nights in the city eating good food, seeing the sights, and doing quests. Our next stop is the Melromarc Kingdom because my instincts tell me all the fun stuff happens there.
