Chapter 24: Finding Trouble, Part 1

Trey looked at his team as they waited in the Chief's office. Red sat at the computer running searches and trying to get more information on the possibility Councilor Molloy was committing crimes against children. Lizzy sat and tapped her fingers on the desk beside her. She might as well have been blind and deaf for all the attention she paid to the rest of the team. Bert massaged Annie's shoulders and occasionally bent over to whisper something in her ear. A couple of times she smiled. Jimmy alternated between throwing himself in a sprawl on one of the chairs, only to jump up and look over Red's shoulder or talk to Dan who appeared to have fallen asleep standing up in the corner. Trey put the team out of his mind and concentrated on the events of the day.

"Chief, Trey let the janitor know there were people watching him. He should have been killed."

Trey looked up. The Chief's face looked carved from stone. Silence was his best plan at this point.
