Chapter 26: Separate Issues, Part 1

Maggie stormed into Joe's office and slammed a pile of files on his desk. His coffee cup jumped and spilled. He pushed back to avoid being splashed by the hot black liquid. She frowned at him then stomped back out of the office. Joe sighed and mopped up the mess with his handkerchief. Maggie hadn't talked to him in days and hadn't smiled in much longer.

He'd made a mistake asking her to research the people involved in trafficking children. Maggie was a much better researcher than he was, but she expected him to rush out and fix every new situation she uncovered. As he eliminated them from his list of possible targets for one reason or another he would send a note to the local police force, but that wasn't enough for her.
