Reeve Petrus wiped his mouth and beard with the back of his hand and thumped the tankard down on the table and belched. "I've heard many a tale from locals about the bad blood between Herdsman Odo Read and Sir Wystan, but I think it's time I heard from ye. From the beginning, lad, from the beginning."

Odo sighed. "Are ye sure?"

"I am, and hurry will ye, don't have all night," replied Reeve Petrus.

Odo nodded and eased into a more comfortable position and began to recount all he could. From that unforgettable day, all those years ago when he and his father had been digging fence post holes and Sir William Ainsley fell from his horse and into Falls Ende. He spared no detail, and Reeve Petrus listened.
