Bishop Immers stood and glared at his old friend. "Then I suggest ye find out!"
"Of course, Yer Grace."
"And as this is costing me more than a penny or two, it would serve this diocese well to obtain title on Falls Ende." He raised an eyebrow.
"I concur, Yer Grace," smiled the abbot.
"There are no knights there; the manor is unattended except by a handful of aging men-at-arms, cripples and boys. With all the men ye will send, they'll have no problem searching every cruck in the entire village."
The abbot nodded in servile acquiescence.
The bishop stood to leave. "See to it, Andrew!"
Charlotte was studying Odo carefully. His breathing was irregular and his eyes seemed to move, but why wouldn't he wake, she couldn't fathom. During the night he cried out, but wouldn't respond when she talked to him. She'd stayed awake the whole night and was exhausted.
