"I know not what creates the wind or makes grass grow. I know not why fire is hot or the sky blue. I accept these things because I know it to be so and is beyond question." Cathal paused a moment. "Just as I do not question why I must be near ye to keep yer safe."
"What say ye?" Odo was surprised. "Ye came here to Mellester to keep me safe?" he repeated.
"Aye, and Charlotte too."
Charlotte slid her chair close to Odo. Despite his earlier foul mood, he reached for her hand.
"Ye must trust me, the both of ye. What I do, I do fer ye both." Cathal leaned forward and met the gaze of the young couple before him. "I do not act fer myself, and I accept this task because it is asked of me. I do not have quarrel over this, for it is my destiny and yers to be linked to me. Do not ask me for answers, fer I have none. I do not expect ye to have answers either."
