Chapter 146

Cathal sat astride his horse and watched attentively.

Used to yelling at his sailors, Hilke's voice was strong and authoritative as he questioned the strangers.

One man, the group's leader, with his features hidden by a rag, answered strongly in Frisian accented English. "Ye will all depart Friesland on the morrow. Leave the cows and yer coin will all be returned to ye!"

Hilke needed no prompting to reply. "Why must this be so, what have these people done except purchase cows and deliver coin to yer hands? They have done no wrong!"

The stranger repeated his announcement and didn't elaborate.

"Who has instructed ye to do this?" yelled Jagger. "Are ye afraid to speak truthfully?" He urged his horse to take a step or two closer to the strangers, hoping to see their faces, weapons and armour. Like the leader, they all had their faces covered.
