Chapter 46

Sophie didn’t go back to visit the dragons’ cave, but she began to think about its inhabitants much more often. Not just because of the great beasts - certainly, she had been impressed by the sight of them, but the main reason was Nadia, who spoke about Taneen all the time.

The girl, who was usually of few words and, Sophie had thought, a little grumpy, became a different person when she talked about the little dragon. Her eyes sparkled and her cheeks became redder. The fact that she could see him only seldom and in secret made her suffer very much.

“It’s not fair!” she would exclaim. “There’s a bond between us and the dragons! We should keep them with us!”

Karla was more cautious: ”I understand that you want to be with him... but it would not be fair to him either. You really don’t know how to handle him; he could be a danger to himself or to others.”

Nadia snorted: ”I would know how to do it. I can feel what he needs.”
