Chapter 39: Chaos Unbound

The ground beneath my feet heaved in the exact instant Chaos took me over. Mist drove forcefully outward to stabilize me while Dad's realm vibrated so powerfully I felt sure for a long, agonizing-and thrilling and furious and weeping-moment Undertown was about to fall into pieces around us.

Stars burst into light at my neckline, pouring sparks as they cascaded to my mist-covered feet, the storm that swirled over my messy curls leaping to defend me while I sent out my energy to feed Dad what he needed, not even sure if that was possible.

Dad staggered next to me, buffeted by the mist, pale face ghost white as the Grim Reaper persona flared into existence over his features in time with my turn to Chaos. The handsome late twenty-something man I adored transformed into a black clad skeleton, his jaw rattling together in time with the shaking, the normally pale, still sky of gray overhead foaming with an approaching storm, spinning into darkness.

"Eve!" Death roared at me. "Stop!"
