Chapter 79: Jupiter

My first instinct was to pursue her, though I don't know why. It wasn't like I had a current gripe with the woman who bore me, though the fact she'd killed Daphne and taken the realm of Life back again still rankled. Especially since she tried to blame me for the Death of my least favorite sister.

Still, there seemed something odd about Isis, the way she disappeared without a chance to get in a dig or a gripe in my direction that felt off. Life itself, the power she carried, had alerted me to her presence instead of keeping her hidden. That was a huge betrayal I didn't understand.

All curiosities would have to wait. As I turned to go after her, Seth's hand fell on my arm. Did he know where I was going, did he see Isis leave? Lilith seemed oblivious, though the dragon man who was my first advisor didn't appear troubled by the appearance of Life.

"This way, Mistress," he said like he knew where he was going and wasn't all that excited to return.
