Chapter 80: Misread

I was expecting to be harangued by at least one of the ancient creatures who followed me to the exit the second we emerged into the Crosspath. After all, I'd done the total opposite of what I'd started out to do. Despite Seth's delight, I still figured Lilith would give me a hard time for not holding my temper and all that other stuff I was so bad at doing these days.

Instead, Seth softly applauded, Lilith hissing out some laughter in response, as we moved in sure strides and slithering confidence across the hub to my door.

"May I say," Lilith said, "how impressed I am at how you handled Jupiter?"

"Brilliant." Seth practically chortled and any second now he was going to rub his hands together in glee. His aura pulsed with frightful delight. "Did you see the look on his face? He couldn't even speak."

"You're one to talk, Lilith," I said. "I thought Juno was going to pop a forehead vein."

The serpent hissed out a giggle.
