Chapter 81: End Of Creation

I started sharply. That wasn't exactly what I'd expected to hear from him.

"Dad." I choked on his name. "You think I'm the end of Creation?"

He didn't answer that, not directly, not yet. Instead he sat back, exhaled heavily, dark hair falling over his trouble blue eyes.

"I don't know what to think, Eve." He turned to me, smiled sadly. "Please, don't for a moment doubt I love you." I was beginning to, and doubting myself all over again. "Or that I blame you for any of this. I know it's not your choice, has never been your choice." He ran both hands over his face then through his silky waves. "But understand where I'm coming from. I was Death for a long time. I know when something's not right in Creation. When doom is pending." He met my eyes again, sorrowful and hurt. "And I feel it, Eve. I feel it coming like it's inevitable."
