I WARNED HIM

Chris opened his eyes after being unconscious for two days, he was met with the blinding light that invaded through the curtains. He rolled his eyes around and tried to adjust his vision to his room. He couldn't remember what happened the last time he saw the sunlight. It was as if he was brought back from the dead, he tried to raise his head up but couldn't. He roamed his eyes around and found his parents sleeping including his brother. His mind trailed back to Rose and where she could be.

If his parents and Vincent are here, who is taking care of Rose? He pushed the thoughts at the back of his mind and started making a sound under his breath to gain their attention. The door of his ward suddenly opens reveling Cassandra in her body hug red gown, her face was coated with heavy makeup.

"Chris!" She screamed, jolting his parents and brother who were fast asleep. They squinted their eyes open at the effect of her tone. She ran to him and threw her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"Cass….." He tried to voice out her name, her hug was hurting him, he could hardly breathe. "Cass I think I can't breathe." He said faintly.

"Huh, did you say something?" She broke free from him and he lets out a sigh of relief.

"Son, you're okay?" His Mom and Dad chorused. "How are you feeling?"

"Better." He cocked his lips into a small but sweet smile. "I think I'm good." His father walked up to him and lifted his face, examining the features of his face.

"I'm glad you're okay." He smiled. "Colours have returned back to your face." Cass greeted his parents and they just gave her a nod as respond. The only person they can think of is Chris, they are so happy he's finally awake.

"I was really worried when I heard on the news you got into a terrible account with Jane." Cass began. "I was really worrrr...."

That's right, Jane, how could he forget so easily? He knew something wasn't right, he knew he was forgetting something. The memory of the last time came crashing in, he remembered the words of the doctor the last time, he wondered how many days he hasn't seen the daylight.

He wanted to jump out of the bed irrespective of the hospital gadgets surrounding him but his parents stopped him. "Where do you think you're going so?" His Mom stared worriedly at him.

"Where's Jane?" He looked at the three of them, waiting patiently for their reply and it seems no one was ready to answer his question. Cass was baffled at his attitude, here he is thinking about that girl called Jane. Instead of worrying about himself, he's worried about her? what spell did that girl ever cast on him? I mean a celebrity like him shouldn't concerned himself with that low life girl but she guessed he should because both of them got into a terrible accident. She wondered what might have caused the accident.

"Will someone tell me where she is!" He demanded. "I can't believe she's dead, she's not dead, the doctor is lying. "

Wait what? Cassandra widened her eyes in shock. Does that mean Jane died in the hospital? She didn't know why but she found this as exhilarating news. No more Jane in her way, no more that plain girl to stand in the way of she and Chris. She curved her lips into a smile before replacing it with a fake worry on her face.

Finally!

"Her parents took her body the next day to prepare her funeral." Vincent voiced out. "Bro accept she's no more, she's dead."

"You're lying, you all are lying." He ripped off the electrodes pipes attached to his body and stomped down from the bed when he winced in pain at the effect. "Argghh..…..", he struggled to control his balance but it was abortive. He ended up falling on the bed accompanied with a migraine.

"Son, you're not fully recovered." His Mom held him back from getting up again, his father too. "You should get some rest, your body is still in pain."

"I'm not going to rest until I see Jane." He stubbornly tried to get up but his parents hands prevented him from doing so. "You're all are lying to me, you just don't want me to see her. She's not DEAD, she will never be dead." He screamed with all the energy left in him.

For the first time Cassandra ever saw Chris behaving this way for a woman, she keep asking herself if this was her friend or someone that looks like him? When was the last time he ever behaved like this for a woman. He keeps denying he has no feelings for Jane but seeing him act like this because of her proved that he has a soft spot for her in his heart, it's either he's too blind to see it or too stubborn and stupid to admit it but seeing him in this condition made her heart bleed. Seeing her friend in this state always bring tears to her eyes.

"Calm down Chris, she's fine." She referred to Jane, hoping he calms down. "Jane is fine and she's not dead." At her statement, he lifted up his eyes to her and stared at her like a lost puppy. He gave her a weak smile and stopped throwing a drama. She smiled back and patted his head. "Just lie down and rest, you will still see her."

"You're sure?" He stared at her hopefully.

"Yes, you will see her after you get some rest."

His parents including his brother marvelled at how he obediently did what she asked of him. He laid down on the bed accompanied with the sweet words she was saying to him, he closed his eyelids and drifted back to sleep.

"You know he still doesn't believe Jane is dead so I don't think it's advisable to tell him that now." She turned to the three figures before her, looking at their shocked faces. "And he has not even recovered fully to take that news in so let's wait for him to get well before telling him anything." She lectured them like a doctor would.

"Yeah my bad." Vincent mumbled, audibly. "But he was being dramatic so I had to tell him the fucking truth."

"And what if he goes into another shock of killing her, what would you have done?"

Vincent kept quiet.

"I warned him but he never listens." His Mom broke down in tears. "I told him not to do anything drastic but he won't just listen." She sits back on the lounge there, weeping. "How are we going to tell him Jane is no more, he will probably be traumatized for months even years the way he was traumatized when his elder brother died."

"I know he will blame himself for killing her. God I don't want to loose any of my sons again, why does this always happen but I can't believe she's dead, I won't see her anymore. Why is fate so cruel?"

"Dear don't think so much." Her husband joined her on the lounge, consoling her. "Even me...I find it hard to digest that Jane is no more. Why did death have to snatch a beautiful girl away from her family? I wonder what her family must be going through now." He stared at the empty walls visualizing what Jane's parents and sister might be going through.

"Fate is cruel, it is." Chris's Mom shook her head vigorously, still not believing Jane is no more. "She's dead. God, why?" She started crying again while her husband consoles her. "I warned him."

Vincent stares at his brother who is sound asleep, for the first time he felt pity on him, felt like a fool for not understanding what his brother was going through. He shared a bond with him but not as strong as the one he has with their elder brother. When their elder brother died, Chris was traumatized. He didn't know him for as long as that trauma lasted and when it seemed like he has gotten over their brother's death, he returned back to his music business so they never really shared that sort of a strong relationship.

But he knew how pretty close he was with their elder brother. He lets his mind drift to Fortune and her family….just like his Mom said, he wondered what she might be going through. He wondered if she will ever be in school after what happened to her sister? Will she ever be catty or mean or rude to him like she used to be or will she distance herself from everyone just like Chris did.

He shuts his eyes, taking in everything. What will become of his brother now? Really he wished he possess some supernatural gifts and rewind the hands of time. Cassandra sat on his (Chris) bed, staring at his fine face although his face is pale but he didn't loose his handsome features. Yes she didn't like Jane and is happy she's out of their way but seeing him this way weakens her. She harboured her feelings for him for years and he never noticed her, only sees her as a friend and she was ready to love him even though he sees her as friend then Jane came out of nowhere and all he thinks about is Jane. Jane this, Jane that. Jane Jane Jane.

She isn't a bad person but when it comes to someone trying to steal Chris away from her, she won't keep quiet.

Destiny has really heard her silent love for him and it decided to take Jane out of the picture.
