Chapter 18

Understand them?, I ask myself, How is she able to understand them?!

They got her that far she has nightmares goddammit!

I enter my quarters angrily.

I stop and stare at Charlie sitting on my bed.

"Wh-"

"Hello Harry", she says grinning.

"What are you doing here?!", I ask confused.

"Oh, I was around..."

"AND WHY ARE YOU ON MY BED?!"

Charlie stands up and sits on the chair in front of the table.

Not that I didn't like it, I think to myself.

"Didn't you want to get me from my room when the lovebirds marry?", Charlie says sort of amused.

"What?!", I ask shocked, "What day is it?!"

"They'll marry in an hour. In the gardenarea. Have you really forgotten?"

"I-"

"So you did. Well we have some time. Already asked you'd forget", she laughs, "talking bout that romance stuff ...You also heard of Liam and Ella?"

"Who not?", I say. Surely the whole city knows after the scene they made in the control room. No one could've ignored that.

"Do you think they will marry?", she asks tapping from one foot onto the other.

"Well, I have seen their looks before this started. I guess maybe one day they will", I answer.

Charlie looks as if she wants to ask something, but still thinks if it was that a good idea.

"What is it?", I try helping her getting started.

"Erm...do you...do you think you will marry someone once?", she asks still looking at her feet.

"I hope so", I say looking away, " If she wants."

"So, there's someone you have in mind?", Charlie asks with a bit of fear in her voice.

"In fact...yes", I repeat and look at her out of the corner of my eye.

As i catch her looking at me I look back to the window right when she turns her head to the door.

"And you?", I ask to break the silence.

"I-", she swallows, "Yes. Yes, I want to marry one day."

I force a smirk on my face.

She smiles and stands up.

"What was this side look of yours?"

"Wh- What are you talking about?"

This sudden change of behaviour confuses me. Just a few seconds ago she was stepping from foot to foot and now she looks at me challenging and smirks.

But this confusion isn't the worst thing. The thing that's scaring me most is that she actually had sensed something.

I haven't planned to tell her so soon, but there's no way out off this situation and it may just be better saying the truth instead of lying.

"Fine you got me", I sigh, trying to play cool, "I may have a little crush on you."

That took her seemingly brave smirk.

My heart beets like hell as well.

Her silence makes it harder for me.

I look at the floor and tap my toes at the floor.

My hands sink into the pockets of my coat and I pull up my shoulders.

"I-", I stutter looking up in her dark blue eyes,"I thought...saying the truth would prevent-"

I don't get any further because her lips took the words from mine.

Her hands, a little colder then the air on my cheeks.

I once heard, people with cold hands have a warm heart. I can only agree.

When we part again I laugh a bit.

"Ok not a little..."

"And I-", she looks down and blushes, "I love you..."

-----------------------------------------

"Guess there's something in the air...", Atlantis mutters.

"What?!", I ask alarmed,"Is the city in danger?!"

"No", he laughes,"Just too many couples are building at the moment that liked each other long time ago already."

"Isn't that good?", I ask, "Better then to waste opportunities and then not being able to-"

"You think about someone special, don't you?", Atlantis asks.

I look at him for a moment.

Offcourse I do. I liked this man for three years and didn't do anything. Maybe I was just afraid he might not feel the same.

He practically could have had any girl and he had many. He pulled so many pretty girls to Atlantis, showed them the world. There was no chance he ever felt the same.

Yes, Lieutenant Colonel John Sheppard was a player. A gorgeous man that always looked for an adventure.

He married young and made mistakes  and only god knows how I could have fallen in love with a person that's so totally the opposite of me.

He pushes duties away and I pull them to me. I always set duty in front of my own good.

But now, I promise myself, I'll take the chance and live this life as if there was no tomorrow. No duties anymore.  No IOA. No SGC. No one who tells me what to do.

I'll grab hold of the luck and never let go. And who knows maybe-

"Hey, I forgot telling you", Ella who stands infront of me all of a sudden says,"You are invited to a marriage."

"Wait what?!", I ask totally startled.

"My brother and his boyfriend. It starts in half an hour!"

"Do I have to-"

"No this outfit is standard. Come. I want you to check my speech!", she says and pulls me away.

"Ohokay", I laugh.

Yes, something is in the air. And whatever it is. I love it even if it should not affect me. What Janus gave me here is the best that ever happened to me next to Atlantis himself.

We strode out off the room with Atlantis in tow and I feel better then ever in my life.

"Hey not so quick!", Charlie says pulling Harry behind her.

I start laughing even more.

Those friends I found are more true then any I ever had.

This is my life now.

This is my home.

This is the place I want to stay at for all my life.

And I'll never want to go back.

Not for anything in the world.

Oh how I love those people...
