Taehyung was overwhelmed by what the elder was telling him. He had learned about Jungkook's family, and how their decisions almost ruined an entire community. How his mother had been unwanted and left alone, how her existence led the council do unspeakable things. How was he going to tell the man he loved that so much of his past was full of darkness and sadness?
The elder gave Taehyung a few moments to grasp what had been said, before he continued.
"Mr. Kim, I know this is a lot to take in, and you may not know why I am telling you this. The truth is, the council has gone too far, done too much. I am ashamed to say I knew of these things and did nothing, but at the time we did not know what else could be done. There was so much disorder and violence and it seemed to be for only one reason. So, in the minds of the council, it was an easy solution. Remove the cause. Once Jeon Suyoung had died, the tension between werewolves and Amaroks had only grown worse, with no end in sight. The werewolves blamed the Amaroks for her death, they wanted justice. But more than that they wanted the other side to be stopped for good. They came before the council and asked for the community of Amaroks to be isolated from the rest of the world. The council agreed but could not imprison all of them. So, they commissioned a suppression drug that would completely mute the entire race of all their instincts. Including woman and children, and the man who had mated with Suyoung was arrested and imprisoned." The elder said.
"Why was none of this made public?" Taehyung asked. "There is very little that the world knows about Amaroks."
"The council buried it all and tried to wipe out anything about their kind. They didn't want people to ask questions about what had happened." The elder replied.
"Then why now, why did the council approve the university being opened to dark and light creatures if they had been so against the two sides mixing in the past? Why did they allow me and Jungkook to be bonded?" Taehyung asked.
"Have you ever asked Jungkook about his home town?" The elder asked.
"He talks about it sometimes, but no we have never talked about it at length." Taehyung answered.
"You have been there, have you not?" The elder asks.
"Yes, to visit his mother." Taehyung replied.
"Did you notice anything unusual when you were there?" The elder asked vaguely.
"Nothing that I can think of, but we only ever went to his mother's home." Taehyung said confused.
"If you ask Jungkook how many friends he had growing up, what did he say?" The elder asked.
"He said he only had one friend growing up." Taehyung said.
"You probably thought it was because of their tendency to not connect with others that they were unable to make friends, but its more than that. There was probably only a small group of kids his age." The elder said.
"I don't understand what you are trying to say." Taehyung said with a sigh.
"Most of the Amarok females cant have children. The suppressant given to the females is different from the one given to males. It had to be to work more effectively, but it also had worse side effects. A side effect that the council considered a blessing because they could keep the Amarok community under control. If the females had less and less children, eventually the whole race would be gone. The past would never be repeated." The elder said with deep regret.
Taehyung couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You are telling me; the council is slowly wiping out an entire race of creatures because of one mistake?"
Taehyung let out of sigh of disbelief. "How did my mother not know about this?"
"I tried telling her like I am telling you now, but she did not want to know about the past, she wanted to focus on the future. She asked not to be taught the history of the council past the few years before she was appointed. I tried warning her that she needed to be careful and consider all the council's decisions carefully and closely, but she did not want to listen. I fear now the council has new plans that I can't see yet. Everything seems to be working toward peace, but some of the items being brought before the council is concerning." The elder said uneasy.
"What kinds of things?" Taehyung asks.
"Your mother has told you the story of what happened to your father, correct?" The elder asked.
"Yes, she tried to wipe his sad memories, but ended up wiping away all of him. But why do you ask?" Taehyung asks.
"Your mother's gift is very unique. In that mistake she became a weapon, her gift was dark unlike other fairies. She grew cold after what she had done, distant, unfeeling. It had turned a bright light into a dim glimmer that also soon faded. She was no longer a creature of light like she once was. This was a concern for the council. Because now a light creature was capable of becoming as dark as a creature born dark. She was not the only one with such a gift, and with training another was taught the way of erasing memories. Yet, this one learned the proper way and it did not have the same result as your father. This person is a secret kept only within the council itself." The elder went on.
"I don't understand. What was the purpose of training another person the ability to erase memories if they banned my mother after what she had done?" Taehyung asked feeling anger building again.
"They needed a way to control others as well. The ability to erase memories came in handy when others did not agree with the council's decisions." The elder stopped and looked at Taehyung with apologetic eyes again.
He hoped Taehyung would understand what he was trying to say without saying every crime he had witnessed out loud. Taehyung was silent as well trying to read the expression on the elder's face, trying to understand what he was dancing around. He thought more about what he had said a few moments before. He thought back when his mother had changed after she tried to help his father. How one day she seemed completely shut off one day and then the next she seemed normal again. As he thought more about those days in his childhood, when he was too young to understand, he started to understand.
"They whipped my mother's memories." Taehyung said not bothering to word it as a question.
He knew it had to be what the elder was trying to tell him. The elder nodded and dropped his gaze away. Taehyung let out a deep sigh bringing his hands to his head in disbelief.
"They have been manipulating her since that day. They have been using her. What did they make her do?" Taehyung asked frustrated.
"I don't know everything they made her do, and she wont either." The elder answered.
"So why are you telling me all of this?" Taehyung asked.
"I am worried about what they are planning. They had all but tried to irradiate Amaroks from this world, and yet allowed one to be bonded with a fairy. Not just any fairy but the future Head of Council. I don't know what their plan is because I am not officially a member of the council, but I am worried. I am worried for you and your partner. I wanted to tell you before the same thing they have been doing to your mother, they do to you. I wanted to tell you while we still have a chance to find out what they want." The elder said almost pleading for Taehyung to understand.
Taehyung was silent for a moment trying to think of what he could possibly do that no one before him could. How could he help?
"I had no idea this was all going on. It had seemed like they had brought peace finally, and now I don't know what to believe. What do we do?" Taehyung asked.
"I want you to tell Jungkook everything. We need him to know what we are facing, because this affects him as well. For some reason the council trusts him, and we can use that to find out what they want with him. He will be shocked as you were and he may not want to believe it, but he has to know what we are all up against. I have been trying to listen in at council meetings and so far nothing seems unusual but I will do my best to keep you informed about everything. We have a few weeks scheduled for you to meet with me, we will use that time to try and find out what we can and then go from there. I am so sorry this has fallen on you now, but I think you are the one who can fix all this." The elder admitted.
Taehyung was still overwhelmed by everything he had been told and couldn't think of another word to say. He promised the elder he would speak to Jungkook as soon as he was home. They said their goodbyes and promised to discuss things more the next day. Taehyung left with a heavy heart and felt exhausted from the anxiety he experienced through that whole conversation.
Meanwhile…
Yoongi and Jimin had spent the whole day trying to cheer up pouty Jungkook, and as the hours passed little seemed to lift is mood. He hated this feeling. He felt empty even though he knew Taehyung would return soon. All these years of not feeling much emotion made all of these feelings frustrating to deal with. He couldn't understand why they were coming on so much more lately.
"Kid look, it's normal to miss your mate when you are apart. You learn how to deal with those feelings the more you tell yourself that they haven't left for good." Yoongi said as calmly as he could.
He had to admit, that listening to Jungkook whine for hours was wearing on his patience. Jimin several times had elbowed him because he was being to harsh.
"Kook, you know Taehyung loves you and would never just leave you. As hard as it is to understand with your emotions running wild, just keep that in mind. Ok? He promised he would be home before dinner! Look at the clock, he should be home any minute." Jimin said trying to sound cheerful.
Jungkook just groaned again for the thousandth time that day.
"Jimin, I swear I am this close to smacking him. I have never seen him like this and honestly its embarrassing to watch." Yoongi mumbled to his luna.
"Oh please! Jungkook listen, as much as Yoongi pretends to be unfazed by anything he is not. Whenever we are apart I come back with him wearing my clothes and holding my pillow in our bed. He is just as bad as you, so don't even feel bad." Jimin said with a teasing look to his mate.
Yoongi glared at him mouthing a warning at him no to expose him that Jimin completely ignored. Before Yoongi could deny anything, Taehyung had arrived. Finally!
"Jungkookie I'm home!" He said trying to muster up a little energy, but dreading what he would have to tell Jungkook.
"OH thank god!" Yoongi said with a sigh of relief. "Sorry Tae we would love to stay but we really have to go. We leave the whiney baby in your care! Ok bye!" Yoongi pulls Jimin out of the room only letting Jimin get out a quick goodbye.
Taehyung laughed at them rushing out the door, and then turns to see a very depressed and pouty Jungkook sitting on the couch. He had not seen a sadder or cuter thing in his life.
"Aw, baby!" Taheyung said walking over and sitting on Jungkook's laugh wrapping him in tight hug.
Jungkook lets out a sad groan and doesn't move.
"You look so sad Jungkookie, have you been like this all day?" Taehyung asks cooing at the younger.
"mhm." Was all that came out of Jungkook's mouth.
He was still motionless and still even though Taehyung was holding him.
"Oh my gosh my baby koo! I can't believe you were this sad. I don't like seeing you like this." Taehyung said pinching Jungkook's face softly and poking at his cheeks.
Jungkook still said nothing, only grunting and groaning in response. Taehyung felt to horrible leaving Jungkook in this state for a whole day, even though his first meeting with the Elder turned out to be so important. Seeing Jungkook like this and remembering what the elder said he came up with a solution.
"How about you come with me tomorrow?" Taehyung offered softly.
Jungkook's eyes grew with happiness and suddenly he was full of energy. He wrapped his arms around Taehyung bringing him closer and kissing him all over his face in excitement.
"I guess that's a yes to my offer then?" Taehyung asked happily.
He had wanted to tell Jungkook everything he had been told today as soon as he got home but seeing the state Jungkook had been in it didn't seem like the right time. It was still a lot for himself to process, and in the end he decided it best if the elder explained everything to Jungkook himself. After the day he had all he wanted to do was be wrapped in Jungkook's arms and feel his warmth. Jungkook had not let Taehyung move from his lap since the moment he had sat down, and there was no sign that he would in the near future.
"Jungkookie, I should at least change." Taehyung said, not really wanting to move either but wanted to tease his mate.
Jungkook moved his head side to side the best he could but his face was still buried in Taehyung's shoulder.
"You won't even let me change? What if I get hungry?" Taehyung asked cutely.
"I will have someone go get you food, but I am not letting go." Jungkook huffed.
"You are so cute; I promise if I go change I will come right back." Taehyung promised.
Jungkook still shook his head no when Taehyung waited for an answer.
"What if we go together? You can sit and watch me the whole time to make sure I don't disappear into thin air, ok?" Taehyung suggested jokingly.
"Ok." Jungkook replied.
Jungkook lifted Taehyung bridal style and carried him up the stairs and to their room. Taehyung could only laugh at how clingy Jungkook had become since they became bonded. When they were in their room finally, Jungkook sat on their bed and waited as Taehyung showered. He decided to change himself and crawled into bed, turning on the tv. He had ordered dinner to be delivered and was planning on having dinner in bed and cuddle his mate until they fall asleep. Taehyung seemed to have other ideas when he walked out of the bathroom in just a towel. Jungkook decided watching tv and cuddling could wait, as Taehyung crawled under the covers.
