Connections

"Ok, so have you killed anyone yet?" Kaia asked, looking at the boy.

"I have killed people." He answered, fixing his cuff. "But those aren't related to the trinket. Father called them 'practice dummies'. I never liked his line of work. Hated it, in fact. I wanted to remain completely anonymous and just live my life as I should, dying an old man, surrounded by the people I care about."

"So why me? Don't say that you wanted to save me at that time. We both know that it's a load of bull."

"It was a test. I wanted to see if the trinket would bound with you." He explained, looking at Kaia lazily. "It was a surprise to me when it did connect with you and it doesn't seem to want to leave either. I tried to get it back several times but it remained stuck there."

"Even last night?" Kaia asked, remembering how he held her hand. He never did that before and she felt her arms tingled a little because of it.
