Anniversary

"My head hurts. My head hurts!" Hwiyun exclaimed as he too remembered the date today. He just realized it after Dohyon pointed it out. Earlier, he thought it was the day after so he shrugged it off.

"Anniversary? Huh?" Leira felt her mind went blank. Both of her friend groaned and Dohyon face palmed himself.

"Get it together you forgetful woman! Its your first anniversary and you already forgot about that? I know you guys are a cool chill couple but damn, not even your anniversary? How the hell did you guys even last for a year now?" Dohyon started nagging and Leira felt like she wants to jump into the pool.

"No, we- we actually planned to do something but I forgot that it was today. Seunwo didn't even said anything!" Leira said as she tried to recall.

"Of course he didn't! His girlfriend chose to go to a party!"

"Hey, you're the one who invited me!"

"I invited both of you!"

They started arguing and Hwiyun know he had to step in before someone ended up in the pool in this breezy night.

"Ok ok, calm down, Lei. I'm sending you to him tonight, right now. Lets go."

"He would be already asleep by the time I got there. Its already 9." Leira felt her energy went down the drained and leaned back to the chair like liquid. Dohyon and Hwiyun looked at each other briefly and back to her.

"Drag her to hell, Hwi."

"That I will do." He said and pulled her up from the lounge chair.

"I'm scared, I cant walk." She suddenly felt nervous by the thought of heading there to a probably disappointed boyfriend.

"Ok." Hwiyun lifted her up and throw her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

"Hey!"

"Good job Hwi, now drive safe." Dohyon said proudly, folding his arm to his chest, giving a judging look to Leira.

"I should be resting right now." Seunwo sighed as he leaned back to his stool.

Kai had drag him to a bar when he wanted to go to sleep but Kai had other plans.

And that was 2 hours ago.

"Oh come on, We haven't hung out in awhile."

"I can talk to you when we're at the hospital."

"Would you? Really?" Kai narrowed his eyes at him and Seunwo stared back at him.

"No the question is will you."

"Yeah true."

When Kai is at work. His whole being is at work. The Kai in front of Seunwo right now is a total different guy when hes in the hospital.

"I kinda miss when we were still doing stuff with papers and exams."

"You weren't that different from now, Kai. Antisocial at your best." Seunwo chuckled lightly as he recall how Kai was.

"I wasn't antisocial. Just choosing my crowd. You haven't change either. Still all smiley facade."

"Its not a facade."

"Yeah sure." Kai rolled his eyes as he smirked at him. Seunwo shook his head and checked his phone before tucking it back to his pocket.

"Leira?"

"No. Its Elaine."

"Huh? Why is she texting you in the middle of the night?"

"She needed some help with-"

"No. Thats not the point, work can wait." Kai protested as he drink his beer.

"Why are you so worked up?" Seunwo had to laugh at his friend. Kai made a face at him.

"You know," Kai started.

"I'm surprised you guys are still together."

"Hm?" Seunwo hummed as he sips his beer.

"I thought she's the type that would get bored when their boyfriend doesn't give her enough attention."

"It's not like that."

"I know. Its just that you are kind of difficult to handle with that quietness." Kai said pointedly making Seunwo raised his brows.

"ouch?"

"When she approached you, I thought you were just being nice but you really do like her huh?"

"Ok, Kim Kai. Lets go home. You're already tipsy. We have to go to work tomorrow. A doctor, yes?" Seunwo paid the bartender and slapped Kai's shoulder.

"Woo, you booboo the fool."

The door unlocked and Seunwo noticed that the light at the living room was on.

"Leira?" He thought to himself as he stepped in with half asleep Kai, following behind him.

"Didn't you said that she's going to spend the night there?" Kai said in hushed tone. Seunwo ignored him and saw her on the sofa.

Leira was fast asleep with her head on the side table. He noticed there's something beside her head and a note with it. Curious, he took the note and Kai peered over to see what was written on it.

"Today is your anniversary?!" Kai almost said loudly as he balked at his friend who was looking clueless as ever.

Seunwo made an apologetic face as he looked to the bucket full of souvenirs and a little bit of everything you could find in Jeju Island. He lift her slowly and carefully bring her to their shared bedroom, tucking her in.

"I'm sorry." He said as he kissed her forehead. Kai leaned to the door frame, looking at the couple with blank eyes.

The latter slowly close the door and ready to face the judging face of Kai.

"I know what you're going to say-"

"I don't understand why would you forget honestly." Kai said pointedly. Seungwoo sighed and just pulled his friend to the study so they won't woke Lei up.

"There's no excuse, I know but the hospital has been hectic lately-"

"When does a hospital ever been peaceful, Woo?" Kai rubbed his temple and sat on the chair in front of the desk. Seunwo sat on his chair.

"It just slipped out of my mind, Kai." Seunwo said in finality. His smile had long gone and just looked out to the window.

"I'm going to sleep. Don't wake me up tomorrow." Kai said heading to the door.

"We're not in college anymore, of course I won't."

Kai opened the door harshly and he nearly bumped to Leira when she just about to knock the door. He could see the frown on her face clearly. Her long hair tousled a bit that flow down to her elbows. He looked away and just brush passed her, walking to his room.

Leira looked at him questioningly before looking back to the man who she had been nervous to face.

"Can I come in?" She asked softly, voice barely came out. Seunwo nodded with a smile and waved her over. She closed the door and went to him timidly, playing with her fingers.

"Seunwo-."

"No, actually I...forgot about it." Seunwo said finding her eyes. Leira blinked for a few times and let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh god, I was so nervous thinking that you would be upset since I went to Jeju on our day. Heck, I was going to text you earlier but I got nervous and ended up waiting for you to come back."

"Nervous? Why?"

"I don't know, maybe you would be disappointed or upset or even be mad at me. You are unpredictable ya know." She said sheepishly and frowned a bit before continuing. "And I know you have been busy at the hospital so its totally natural to forget about it."

"Thank you for understanding but Im not mad at you, Lei." Seunwo smiled softly and pulled her hand to him.

"Is now the perfect time to say Happy Anniversary even though its the day after?" Leira asked as she stood in between of his legs as they stare at each other.

"Happy anniversary, Lei." He chuckled. Leira smiled softly and put her arms around his shoulders, giving him a hug.

"Quick question." She said as she put her chin on his head.

"Hm."

"How many years have we've been dating?"

"...I'm not sure either."

"Being a doctor really tires you out huh. Come on lets sleep. You have to wake up in another 3 hours."
