Our first “adventure”

"So, what do you want to do?"

"Let's do a request!"

"You mean from the guild?"

"Yeah! We don't have much to do anyway, right?"

"I guess not but I thought you'd like to go sightseeing or something since we haven't actually done much of that."

"We can sightsee on the way!"

"Alright then."

...

A couple minutes later we finally trudged our way into the biggest building in the city.

We slowly walked over to the request board and picked out something relatively easy. We had picked out a subjugation request to "kill" snowmen.

I honestly thought it was quite ridiculous but as we would later find out that when enough mana was absorbed into the snow it would create an exact replica of a snowman that could actually "evolve". Though it was more like absorbing more mana enhanced snow and growing to a larger size.

Normally it wouldn't have been much of a threat but with snow that piles up up to even hundreds of feet they, no conventional transportation and no one around for what could be tens-hundreds of miles it became quite dangerous.

"Isn't it so beautiful~?" Sharla asked

"Y-yeah it is!"

We were currently over looking the city that was in a valley of sorts that opened up into a large forest. It was honestly quite beautiful but the effort to get up one of the slopes was great and it had already almost been an hour since we set out.

Normally, people would leave the city out into the forest to hook back around and travel up the slopes that were easier to travel on, but it would have taken at least three hours to do so.

"H-how do y-you still have so much energy."

"I put most of my points into agility!" She said

"Huh"

"Alright, lets get going!"

"Ok~"

...

"How far did it say these 'monsters' were?"

"Not too far, it should be just a little bit more!"

"You say that like it hasn't been four hours." I say

"Has it really?"

"Yes, yes it has and I'm running low on Shar reserves! Not to mention I'm the one carrying the bag and the sun is starting to set. How about we make camp here, wake up early and finish up tomorrow so by the time we get back to the city it won't be dark?"

"Fine~, but you have to make dinner!"

"Ok~, but don't complain when it doesn't taste as good as you thought it would be."

...

A while later and I had cooked up a stew made of a plethora of vegetables and some meat.

Despite Shar's happy look I had a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't as good as she made it look. Unfortunately I was used to my cooking so I couldn't really tell how bad it actually was.

"How is it?"

"Great!" She says

"Mmm~"

The rest of the night was uneventful and ended up with us curled up under a blanket in a tent.

...

When I wake up I'm drawn to a the loud crunching of snow beneath feet. I at first think it is some wild animal but the absence of even a low growl or load breathing makes me doubt such a thing.

I slowly open the tent flap just enough so that I can poke my head out only to see a large mass of white standing just a little ways away. As quietly as I can I go back in to wake Sharla.

When I turn around I am met with two eyes staring back. Before she can say anything I put my hand over her mouth and put a finger up to mine. I gesture her to look outside and she does just that. Just as soon as she looks outside, she is back in.

Normally one could not see mana unless trained to do so but the gathering of such large quantities was not very hard to miss. Instead of what it should have been the supposed "snowman" was, at the very least, three of me stacked on top of each other.[1]

Suddenly a double edged sword in a sheath appeared on my back. As quietly as I could, I unsheathed the blade and crept to the the entrance of the tent.

I take a few deep breaths before leaping into action. Using my sword I cut clean through it's right leg. When I turn to see the damage I dealt I am thoroughly disappointed to see it still standing.

"Tch, of course it can heal! Damn I regret not picking up a spell or two. Hey Shar do you know any spells? Specifically anything related to fire?"

"I do, but only the basics!"

"Well beggars can't be choosers, just keep-"

I was cut short by a spear of ice being thrown at my head. Dodging to the left, I can see a small fire ball flying towards the the hulking figure of the "snowman".

"Damn! This is going to take a while." I say

I quickly dodge to the left as another spear of ice is being lobbed in my direction. Seeing the severity of the situation, I put the sword back in it place and take out my short swords that lay in two sheaths right at my waist.

I hear the whistling of wind as a massive hand came hurdling in my direction. Instead of just dodging I jump as best I can and land on the "snowman's" arm.

"Just continue to attack! It has to run out of mana eventually!" I shout while holding on for dear life.

It wasn't long till the "snowman" started to focus its attacks on me. I am eventually forced to jump as it tries to brush me off with its mace like hands. When I am back on my feet I use all of my strength to cut through its arm.

Turning to face the giant creature I am disappointed as the snow/ice flies right back into place.

...

It took us a while but the "snowman" was obviously weakening as the mana surrounding its body was becoming more translucent.

...

Finally, it let out its dying roar as it fell to the ground as regular snow.

"That has to have been the most annoying fight I've been in."

When I feel a hand on my shoulder turn to meet the beautiful eyes that are Shar's before wrapping myself around her.

"You get to make dinner~."

"Dang it."

"Fufu"

"I expect to be compensated when we get back to the city!"

"Why of course you do~. Who do you think I am? A slave driver?"

"Hmm? No but you are quite the meanie!"

"Says the one who constantly teases me constantly!"

"Fufu~, and I'll continue to do it."

Note: hi... well as probably most of you know (as I'm quite sure at the very least half of you have my other novel in your library) I'm going to be posting last weeks chapters this week so look out for those as they'll come out before Saturday (hopefully, though it wouldn't be weird to expect two chapters, Saturday.)
