The Forest

Long lashes fluttered delicately before giving way to smouldering dark eyes. Those eyes looked at each tree intensely as soft, pale hands pushed their host to their feet. Dirt sifted under the soles of the woman's bare feet and she took in everything around her precariously.

The plain white dress she wore was torn in places; her body shivered at the slight breeze that accosted her smooth shoulders and right hip. Her curious gaze roamed the forest surrounding her, looking for an exit route, but each time she made to move in a direction it seemed as if the trees around her closed in on her, blocking her path.

It was then that she took in the large crater she stood in, and gasped. Her soft, breathy voice penetrated the thick silence and with a tone of disbelief, she whispered, "I remember."
